So it happened while conducting a necessary suction session through rubber and tubing. The rubber broke away and the security ring came off with. Huge mess everywhere. Turned off the flow before anything else could spit out, and attempted immediate fixing, but it wasn't easy. For whatever reason anything involving making a connection isn't my strong point. I got down on all fours, and when that didn't work tried another position. Limping the connection didn't make much of a difference either. And man was it all so dirty! Finally had to bust out a strong and stiff tool to leverage the situation and connect the stupid rubber to the stupid hole! At this point multiple people got involved; including a "safety first!" where another connection unplugged to prevent any unexpected disasters. Eventually it was just me and the rubber again. I'm not used to having tools involved with such a stubborn piece of rubber, but eventually I made the rubber stay on the hole, and got the security ring back on so I could continue to suck without further interruption.
Ok you dirty-minded readers. I'm talking about an instance with an office vacuum when I was told to vacuum up the dirty floor of the lobby of our building.
This literally just happened less than five minutes ago.

Having a hard time picturing what you're talking about. Was this a household vacuum or a shopvac?

Not sure. It's a bagged upright that's clearly a decade or two past its expiration date. Arguably a Frankenstein of parts; most obvious being that the power cord itself is clearly not the original manufacturer's.

Arguably a Frankenstein of parts; most obvious being that the power cord itself is clearly not the original manufacturer's. I'm assuming a government issue model. Most likely the rubber and plastic were exposed to excessive sunlight at some point. It will break again at some point in the near future. Those parts need replaced. Typically, the size of those parts are universal. A dump would be a good place to find them. That or a good will or thrift store. Just measure the parts first. Heat and sunlight will destroy plastic and rubber over time.
