Nicely done shelter with those sawblade palmetto fronds. They are perfect to use filling in to make a shelter. I have some growing in my yard and think they're attractive.
We also have those vines with the thorns but I don't know their name. I do know if your clothes get hung up on them it's not easy getting them to turn loose. They're thick and strong and are great for cordage minus the thorns of course.

Thanks guys. I just checked on it today and there was alot of sunshine coming through the roof. The palmetto fronds shrank up as they dried just like grass does. That caused gaps. I guess you would have to re-roof it often to keep it watertight. time consuming, but the roof was fairly fast and easy to put up.

Will, understanding that you weren't staying there for an extended period of time, do you think if you had doubled the number of fronds and placed them together tighter that after they shrunk it would have still been fairly dry under the roof? LOL.. Okay after reading that question I'm pretty sure the obvious answer is... DUH!!!! I guess the more you put on there it would be tighter.

Alot more cross vines and at least double the fronds should do the trick.

I'm curious about the vines. What are they? Up here we'd be using buckthorn. Dono. They did have thorns I had to shave off. We have always called them "Bamboo Vines" serious thorns and strength that is unbelievable. They can get to an inch in diameter and have seen them stall a D-6...no joke. Very nice job WILL. Jimmy

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing and posting pics. I don't know what kind of shelter one could make around here right now...its so dry everything turns to dust when you handle it. But gives me s few ideas for next spring!!
