It's not the cops fault. We need to restructure the laws so that only people who are a danger to others are put in jail. Agreed with one exception. Those who steal in white collar methods such as selling bogus bonds and other forms of fraud that take the life savings of someone acting in good faith should be put under the jail. Other than that, if they are not a risk to life or limb, fine them and or make them work public service, and let them walk. Yup. I consider anyone who steals a danger to others. The more they steal, the more dangerous they are. All thieves need to be booked, finger printed and photographed. I could see caning and a fine for misdemeanors, but felony level thieves need to be kept in jail to protect the public.

While I'm inclined to agree with you all about the over prosecution of this fellow.. I go back to Pathwinder and his out of date tags.. it's the law. I don't wish this fellow any bad luck, cause he did a nice job.. just not far enough out of the way and well, if he'd only had a license to grow that pot.. and where does he get his money to buy this stuff at home depot?..oh yeah.. the pot.. my bad.. so he's really not homeless, he has a job (although he's not licensed for it) and he's not causing anyone any harm.. but there is the law.. legal vs. illegal.. not right vs. wrong.. I agree with Will, the system spends way to much time and money and effort on these types of 'crimes'. I'd be for changing some things. I'd be for throwing out the UN and letting the homeless veterans use it for housing and treatment. I'm for taking all of the abandoned government buildings that are sitting empty around the country costing us probably billions in upkeep and using them for shelters and emergency shelters. I'm for taking lots of left over MREs and other food items and putting them in these same shelters. Just a little common sense could make a lot of wrongs right.

RE: An elaborate and illegal camouflaged residence.......
It's funny how they pic and choose which laws they enforce. He would have been ok if he were an illegal pilgrim drawing aid from the state.

He would have been ok if he were an illegal pilgrim drawing aid from the state. they would have brought him a state ID, food stamps and a health card and told him how to catch government funded transportation into town so he wouldn't have to ride his bike... and given him a permit for medical marijuana.. Edit: oh yeah.. and a voter registration card..

Why is he in trouble and why as a nation do we care about weed, alcohol does way more damage than weed. How many pot heads beat their women, ya know

The same number that beat their women sober.. a wife beater is a wife beater and I'm pretty sure this wasn't about weed being the main problem or wife beaters. I thought it was about a guy that went out and built a cabin on public land without a permit or permission and was growing an illegal product because he had no permit.

Would be a long drawn out " I'm right conversation " that would end up stupid and heated I recon' point is America ?? Man goes of into the woods to make a buck while the state he's in has no work to offer, plus he probably don't have any skills. Soooooo Now he's in trouble? HES LIVING IN THE WOODS, hum maybe he wants to --- I don't know, make some money to live?. (any way possible ) doubt he's selling crack to children ( just a guess ) For camping and growing a plant ( to live ) Either way seen way to many problems begin with alcohol and way less start with weed Sorry if a re-directed the thead I just down right don't agree

Agree with you their buddy....but try telling that to the SAO....they think otherwise. They are constantly looking to drop cases from misdeminors to felonies cause of the case load. The bottom line is bad business to keep the criminals locked up cause the state, court system, and attorneys dont make any money if all the bad guys are locked up. It's a revolving door, catch the criminal and fine them a couple of hundred dollars and release...and over, and over, and over again. The money flow of the same criminals is what gives the judges, court, etc job security....and tell me it aint so Couldn't agree more. This case is exactly the type of thing that sucking the life out of our criminal justice system. We don't have the money to house serious offenders so we keep injecting them back into society with a slap on the wrist. Who friggin cares about a few homeless pot-heads in the middle of nowhere. Fine 'em for littering and kick 'em out. Burn the shed down on site. apparently the state of California thinks a pot head homeless guy is more important to waste dollars prosecuting than the same dollars spent on finding and prosecuting murdering gang bangers. +1 No wonder the state is falling apart and broke. I rather use the man power and little money they have on real problems turning the state into a Zest pool. This same mentality is the reason why our country is in the gutter. It's a cancer that needs to be eradicated by the people.
