Honest, you folks are the ones I would want and need to talk to should the SHTF, whats the next level of contact? HAM? FRS? GMRS? Internet? face to face? Do we need to detail our next level of interaction? I am not a super freak out prepper but it would be interesting to know what the locals might resort to ;-)

I have a list of email addresses, should the internet remain up. A list of phone numbers memorized should internet fail, but phone lines still be available. A list of physical address memorized should internet and phones be unavailable. And I am working on and learning about HAM radios, should phones and internet fail to the magnitude that they will not be viable for months or even years. For folks locally, hand held radios of different types are already in use and being practiced with. Out here in the sticks, many of the folks I know have horses and ATVs. We will find a way to keep in contact one way or another. And most of us know how to reach each other through the woods and keep in touch without ever using a road. I have several friends locally that swap small groups of homing pigeons amongst themselves once a month and release them with messages attached just to see how often the birds will get messages through concerning whatever they want to send, each person will have several birds form each other person. The birds are not kept long enough to forget where home is, and are well cared for at home to give them a better incentive to return...in an emergency, it could be something helpful, a small cage of pigeons could be gathered and spread around via horseback quickly and quietly under the cover of night and as things take place, messages can be sent to other folks and the word can be spread as to what needs to take place or to keep folks up on current events, etc...you never know what those birdies in the sky might actually be doing! EDIT: Spelling

Again...I state...Contact now is great for sharing information...if the shtf....you'll never know me nor meet me. I've got no cell group or anything of the such...just the wife and the boys...and the worse the economy gets...the oldest boy may end up at his dads and thus leaving only me, the wife and the youngest...Who's ready to plug up the fan?

Smoke lol we will get our info to you dink somehow:) Ifn something goes terrible wrong across the country, I will ALWAYS keep an ear out for a message from you at some point as well as sending any I can when I find folks heading that direction...and visa versa, I do believe! If we can keep in contact across that many miles, then pretty much anyone can else can do the same...even if it is months or years between contact!

You don't. You're way to busy to worry about contacting internet buddies. Once in a while you have fond memories of the past.

I don't see us able to communicate more than very locally if we're talking about an extended grid-down situation. Still, we'd try.

In an extended grid-down situation....we basically WON'T contact eachother. That is why it is so important to fill your head with knowledge and fond memories NOW.
However....even in the worst scenarios society will eventually re-boot (unless the world actually ends, in which case....who cares?) ....even if it takes 10 years or more...the day will come when you have internet or something comparable and then we may wonder about eachother....
I don't know if we could set up some kind of a "code word" to search the internet for or something like that... something like "Colcord Mama's Survival Bunker Reunion"
mostly, though I agree with WILL....we'll have much bigger things to worry about and plan for....
