Thank you for finally clearing up for me what charcloth actually is, great video. Now, seeing that charcloth and the pj cottonballs are both firestarters, would there be a need for both? Is one better than the other? I have made lots of pj cottonballs and keep them stored everywhere.
Also...I want that coffee cup!!! ;D

Should I have both on hand since I only use the pj cottonballs? Or, are the pj balls good enough on there own? It seems kinda redundant to carry both unless someone can explain otherwise. Thanks!!!

When I go out, I carry several kinds of tinder and several ways to light that tinder. Additionally, I carry redundant methods in various locations (backpack, fanny pack, pockets, etc.). I'll do a vid of a typical fire kit that I carry when I get a chance.

I've made and practice with the pj balls but, haven't done anything with the char cloth, that's why I was wondering if I should have both. I don't want to miss out on anything. As the Boy Scouts say, "be prepared"!

I have another one that uses a variety of fire starters, but I don't want to put it up since it promotes Rat Fink's products in it.

Is one better than the other? I have made lots of pj cottonballs and keep them stored everywhere. Here's my take on it...PJ cotton balls are great....but they require certain special items (basically just PJ and cotton balls! :-) ) You might not always have them on hand or available. The nice thing about the charcloth is there are a million and one ways to make it with scraps of whatever old raggedy cotton you have laying around. I like to use old underwear and socks for making charcloth. I save old t-shirts for rags and bandages, but I am too embarassed to use underwear as a rag....I'm afraid somebody will see it....as charcloth you burn the evidence that it ever was, in fact, underwear... The coffee cup is pretty awesome, But I want that wilderness mallet!
