Ran across a deal on some old war surplus 06 ammo. It's dirty but will clean up good enough to fire and reclaim the brass. Question. Some is visibly dented. If it chambers OK will it be alright to shoot it or should I pull the bullet and do a full case resize? ?? I just don't have any experience with this type ammo.

I can't tell you how many dented cases I have fired all without seemingly any issues. How do you do a full case resize on rifle brass? All I have ever reloaded is pistol.

Well, I miss spoke. The die does resize the brass and open the neck to receive the bullet but it would not remove a dent. Pressure from firing the shell would definitely take the dent out. I'm just learning this reloading thing.

Geron I am not sure exactly what you mean by cleaning it up? If it has green splotches on it, make sure it is not eating into the brass. They will be corrosive mercury primers and tend to eat on things with long storage. What ever you do. Do NOT vibrate or tumble them to clean them up. That can cause the powder to go from stick, flake or ball, to "Dust" making for a detonation = BAD. As for the dents they will fire form unless they are sharply creased. I would not shoot them if it looks like something sharp edged hit them. Probably ok, but why risk a good gun. Happy shooting.
