Thought I would take a little break and sight in my ol squirrel rifle. It's an old Winchester bolt action Model 320, with a very old Redfield 4X 1" tube scope. I almost always shoot CCI CB Long Ammo. This was at 25 paces rested against my back porch door frame. First Group 1.Adjust Down and Right. 2.Adjust Up only. 3. Elevation good adjust Left, 3,4,5,6, Opps! 7 too far! I figure 8 was me on the Elevation. Second Group Changed nothing and first shot is the low and out of the ring. Hmm, maybe 8 wasn't me? Adjust Up only and all in the Nickel. Changed nothing. Reduced target to a dime. Aim small, miss small right? Not a bad group and would all be head shots. My shoulder was getting really beat up from the recoil by now and that is why the one is on the line so I stopped for the day to heal up and try and dial it in better later. (hehehehe ) I can already taste the dumplings! Third Group

Now that is some serious dialing.. I'd say you'll be eating those squirrels and dumplings before you know it. Better share that recipe

minute of squirrel is plenty accurate enough for me. Looks like the CCI's shoot a little more consistent than the other brands or your gun happens to like them better than mine.

Yep, I have tried about every sub-sonic 22 I could get my hands on and found that the CCI CB Longs seem to really like this little gun for some reason. It also performs well with the CCI Long Rifle HP SubSonic's but they are not nearly as quiet as the CB's. The gun will shoot better if I'll sit down and use a bench but hey ya know, like you say that is plenty good enough.

ARe you shooting subsonic strictly for the noise or are there other reasons. I just got online to purchase my permit but I don't know my hunters ed. number so i have to wait until the a.m. for the conservation lady to look it up for me. I think I will just try my hand at the whole shooting and killing thing. Not sure the wife will be so pleased!!
Dang fine shooting if I may say so. My groups are not that tight but I am shooting squirrel iron sights at about 27 meters.
If I can con the wife into believing that the military wants me to drive to Arkansas for a weekend I might have to join you two knuckle heads.

I'm shooting these because they are the quietest most accurate that I have found for this gun. I can sit under a Hickory Tree with squirrels cuttin nuts and pop them one at a time and the others will never stop cuttin! It's pretty cool to sit in one spot a nail 4 or 5 out of the same tree. You'd be more than welcome to come down. I'd love to take down in the bottoms and get you on a good squirrel hunt!

I have been shooting the M-22 Winchester rounds and out of my Henry are for some reason not as loud as my other guns. Maybe barrel length has something to do with it. The CCI CB shorts shoot very well but those are mostly for my kids' guns. Will have to give the longs a try in the Henry. Back to your last post, I shot a ton with a ton of misses(see my other post about that)and never ran them off. Even using my pistol twice they still hung around.

I tried the shorts too but they weren't as accurate as they longs for some reason? Try those longs in that Henry, you may like them. If your Henry is that quiet you might like the SubSonics too, they are a Long but they also have a Hollow Point bullet too.

So you are shooting shorts as well as longs? Is the rifle made specifically for that or are they interchangeable. What is the benefit of shooting short?

quiet and it knocks the crap out of critters at shorter ranges. Yes the Henry lever action will shoot short long and long rifle, you can even mix them in the tube if you choose. Shorts shoot about 3 inches low at 30 yards but sound like a cap gun.
