Pike fishing is another favorite sport of mine. It's still early and the fishing will get better.

Not that we have any pike in Oklahoma but since you brought it up.. where is the recipe for 'if you cook it right pike tastes wonderful'. I caught a pike when I was in the boundary waters, my brother caught a lake trout.. we cooked 'em both that night over an open fire and without a recipe they tasted pretty darn good after an all day of paddling.

Lots of factors come into play as to how your fish turns out. Was it left on a stringer all day to die slowly. The best way to keep fish fresh for cooking is to put on ice as soon as possible. If you can't do that then cooking it as soon as possible is best. As for cleaning and cooking, a pike can't be cleaned like other fish. If not done right you will have to many bones to even enjoy your catch. Always remove the lateral line and belly meat. As for cooking most people over cook there fish, it should be cooked just till it flakes, not mushy of tough. In your situation cooking a fresh caught fish on an open fire always taste good... plus how hungry a person is.... thanks for posting

we had keep nets for our fish (sort of like a live well) so even at the end of the day the fish were fresh, most of the time the pike were filleted and cooked with lemon, salt and peper. fried on a high heat quickly to sear it was good eating
