I have an A2 carry handle on mine though it is a flat top. I like the looks and for a potential combat weapon I do not want to rely on optics. Been looking at a carry handle mounted red dot system or scope. The A2 upper used to be mine...It's a dedicated carry handle upper and for optics use you have to either install a top rail to the carry handle or use a "Z" rail...again...attaching the optic rail to the carry handle... The "Z" rail allowed for mounting an optic but unless you dump your money into an optic that is designed for a "Z" rail you'll not be able to co-witness your BUS. The standard optics will be in the way typically I found them to be to high to co-witness with. I agree on not relying on an optic for your only sight system and that's why I refuse to use a battery operated retical system. My optic is a mil-dot non-illuminated retical. But due to having to put my scope on a riser mount to clear the front sight block I can not use BUS...but I've got a rear sight BUS if I ever need to remove the scope.

I found some carry handle mounts with both weaver and picatinny rails. question for me is which to use. as to the co-witness what I meant was without the handle. I have removed and installed it several times and it is always back on zero so that becomes an option.
