Well, went to rob our bees today and no honey in the super, they started pulling comb but thats it. Our neighbor didn't do well either. He said he thought it was the dry weather. Last year we started out with 2 hives, but wax moths got one of them. But out of the surviving hive we got a load of honey. We set up a new hive to replace the one the wax moths got. And also found a surprise, The old hive the wax moths got had a swarm take up in it. So now we have 3 ;D

I know that is a bummer not to have any honey. It has been over 30 years since I have fooled with any bees. well, at least you have 3 hives for the price of 2.

Bees around here are having a really hard time. The heat has kept flowers from blooming right and a lot of stuff burned up (like clover) before it had a chance. Bees have been all over my garden by the hundreds!! Aside from the plants though, I set out several pie pans filled with clean creek gravel and then filled with a very strong sugar water mix. I make sure the bees can land on the rocks and get to the sugar water between the stones. I change it every 3rd day when the heat is bad and every 5th day when its cool...and change it completely after any rain. They are lapping it up as fast as the flower pollen. Its at least giving them something to eat. They also like the hummingbird nectar mix!! I have it in a couple pans, and they love it. I add red food color to them so the will be attracted to the color...so far it's working! The wild hive is producing really good!
Oh, the butterlys are really taking advantage of it, too!!

Yes, but it also has vitamins and minerals added to it. Hummers need it to regrow flight feathers.

Quick, everyone run to the store and stock up on honey...lol Seriously, I think that honey should be one of the items you stock up on for a shtf situation.

The scariest thing is, although there are a lot of other polinators, if the bees starve and die off, then most of the plants on the planet will die off as well. There will be basically little to no food. They are the backbone of polination. Without some help from humans, with the diseases affecting them and now starving off, bees are being hit VERY hard and face mass die offs!!
Stocking up on honey IS a great idea, as it has basically an indefinite shelf life and is good for you...but without the bees, we really don't stand much of a chance..so if you stock up on honey, consider setting up a few bee feeders so they can survive and help us to survive as well.
