Very nice, Dennis! I'm in need of a new outdoor run for my chickens and have been putting off building one because of the extreme heat here this summer (central Arizona) and because I wanted something more secure than what I have now. I've had neighborhood dogs try to break into mine before. Right now, my run is just a wood frame with chicken wire fastened to it. So I have a few questions for you..
why is the house raised up off the ground,
Makes it easier to reach in and get the eggs. and how much do cattle panels cost?
I just paid 18 bucks each for them. How did you fasten the house to the run?
With fence staples or you could just use nails and bend them over. Fence staples are U shaped. What size are the openings in the panels,
Panel openings are 6†by 6†I cover the whole thing with 2†by 4†wire.and could a cat get in there?
NoWe have outside cats, and while I hope my chickens could defend themselves against one cat, A cat would most likely kill a hen but a rooster would put up a fight.
I wouldn't want to chance a tragedy. I only have two hens left from my latest batch and they're pretty old, almost not laying any more. I guess next spring I'll have to get new chicks to replace these ladies when they finally go to the big coop in the sky. No, I do not butcher. They served me well and come running excitedly when they see me. They get to die natural deaths here.
