This is kind of a how to if any one has any questions I would be glad to help.
Since I’ve lost all my chickens to predators I’ve decided to keep them locked up. So I enlarged my coop. I wanted to post this thinking maybe someone else would like to build one. It would hold other animals if ya wanted, keeping them safe. I’ve never had a problem when I left them in the coop.
They are easy to build and require very few tools. The panels are self supporting so no frame is needed only a box on the ground to nail the panels too. I use 4 X 6s but any thing would work that is strong enough to hold the panels. The panels I got are 50 inches by 16 feet and made of very heavy wire rod.
You could use these panels for other things like a temporary shelter or maybe a green house frame.
My new coop will be 8 foot wide 6 foot tall and 21 feet long. With a 3’ X 6’ house.
First thing I did was move my existing coop to keep it in the shade more. I remove the house and took down the outside fence I had for them to run in.
I added two 8 foot 4 X 6s and a couple 2 X 6s for the cross ties on the bottom. I use 2 X 4 wire fence under the 4 X 6s to deter any digging under the coop.
The original coop had 3 cattle panels and I added 2 more.
Here is where I added two more panels.
I use wire ties to hold every thing together. The fence staples are used for attaching the panels to the 4 X 6s. Here are some pics of them. You can also see the wire I buried under the 4 X 6s.
Attached the house to the end. I will cover the lower section when it starts getting cold to give them a wind break.
I also put a cover over the first section for weather protection. I use a canopy which is a lot heavier than your normal tarp and they also have grommets every 18 inches. They will last much longer.
I put 2 X 4 fence wire over the cattle panels and will also add some poultry netting to the bottom 2 feet.
