Well I would post pics but always have problems anyone wanting pics contact me with e-mail address. Subject line Tee Pee info. to jeffvanburen@hotmail.com
I built a Tee Pee 12' tall 33' cirumferance at the base for the grandkids. I installed a Dakota fire pit to keep warm and also use as a smoke lodge and a smoker. I ran flexible steel exaust pipe 6' from the fire pit then ran into PVC that way no chemical reaction with the PVC and heat. I installed window screen on the exaust elbow to prevent critters from entering. I also buried the cover tarp of the tee/pee to prevent creepy crwalers and wind entering from ground level. My thought is when the grand kids are not around I can build a rock box and create a smoke lodge or a wooden rack and create a meat smoker. I tried the Dakota fire pit today in a heavy wind and it worked great no wind came in and the fire burned very hot.

For those that got the pics why not post them for graf so we can all see. I'm looking forward to seeing this and was always interested in making one.

Here's the first pic. I think I have to add them in separate posts since I don't see an "add another" button. There are 5 altogether. Thanks graf! This is great! ;D Attachments:

Thanks for sharing ;D I really like the setup and one day hope to make my own tee pee. Great job on the fire setup, could you see yourself surviving in this during cold weather? How would you rate a tee pee as a long term shelter?

How thick of a tarp are you using?

I'm thinking of using our 20' x 40' tarp, just to get the cone's circumference properly covered with a decent amount of overlap to form a doorway. I'm going to pleat the tarp heavily near the top, tie a second layer of paracord to hold the pleats in place, then fold the pleated edges over to one side, tying everything down one final time. All I have to do is dispatch the Marine and his brother to the park to bring home the poles. In order to avoid our all too frequent floods, I'd use the southwestern side of the house. Digging the dakota hole will be the first step; when I can successfully get the hole dug, the rest will follow easily.

Angelhelp, Thanks for posting the pics. I will be sleeping in the teepee in January I like to winter camp anyway so thought I would try this out before setting up another elsewhere. I used a 10 mil tarp. I would recommend using a tarp larger enough to cut a slit dead center and slipping over the top and draping the cone structure. I did not have a large enough tarp to do that with I used a 20X30 tarp largest anyone had around here, the cone up to the tie together is 12' so draping it would have left me 2' short in places. I also anchored a post in every direction to increase strength in wind. At the doorway I used deck screws and fender washers in the grommet holes, I was able to build this by myself and it was comical I was standing on the very top of a step ladder in windy and wet conditions it a miracle I did not break my neck. The grandkids don't know I built this yet so they will be geeked when they see it.

Winter camping... yay, someone else likes the idea! OK, now I've got to find out what deck screws and fender washers look like. I presume we're just talking about large sized screws & washers, but I'll check to be sure. The only other thing I need to add to it is a cat hatch.
