I bagged a 7 point on my mom and dad's property around 8:50am Sunday morning.
I did not get to hunt on my opening day here in Ga as I took Boo and Trace to Stone Mt. Ga. for the Scottish Highland Games as we missed the Highland Games in Blairsville, Ga. this past spring.
I then went to help my BIL trail one he hit...we looked for almost 2 hours...only one spot of blood...at 11:00 he shot a doe with my 30-06 and 20 seconds later I shot a button buck. After shooting his new slug gun we found out that his scope will not take the abuse of a 12ga slug barrel...he was over 12" high at 100 yards...but my 30-06 was dead on...proven three times in under 3 hours!!!

I just got my meat back from the processor's and I ended up with 53# of burger!!! I was then told by two of the folks at the processor's that if I de-bone the meat so all they have to do is grind it then they will add beef fat to it and package it in 1# bags for $25.00 no matter how big the deer is. It's a little more work on my end but worth it in the end to de-bone it. If I had a grinder....I would just do it my self...but last time I checked grinders were really expensive!

I always process ALL of my meat, I never trust anyone else handling it. I've been inside processors before and I did not like what I saw! I get more and better cuts as well as having control over my burger meat to be just how I want it. I used and hand crank food chopper for years and that was a ton of work but now I have an electric model meat grinder/sausage stuffer and I LOVE it! It doesn't have a brand name on it but I bought it at Wal-Mart. They can be had for $50-$75 off of E-bay brand new or just check locally they are not much money at all and it sure gives peace of mind knowing exactly what you're getting. I enjoy making sausage too and this machine just makes it a breeze! Glad you had a great opener, I hope to follow suit!

Dang Alex way to go. I'm with wtrfwlr on not trusting the game processors. Had a Buddie that worked for one and the stores he would tell. Outdoor Edge Deer Processing 101 DVD is a very good how-to. Its how I learned to do it myself. And I have a grinder from walmart also. works good. Just try not to over load it.

Wtrfwlr and ncguy....I've been screwed by a local processor once and vowed to never set foot in there again and to do all I could to help him loose business...that's a story for another day. The processor I go to now I've known for over 7 years, he's a meat manager at a local grocery store, his shop is ALWAYS clean and it never fails...when I go in there...some one is washing something! You know you'll always see flies at the intake areas due to blood and such...and his place is no different...though he does have flap doors, bug lights and fly fans running. The processing area is super clean and the few folks he's got working with him are top notch! We did a deer hunt for the homeless about 5 or 6 years ago. I went to Gussy and asked if he'd be willing to process all the deer bagged on that weekend hunt and how much he would charge...we had 7 deer shot, over 250 pounds of burger and Gussy only charged us $55.00. I would love to grind my own and will someday when I can get a grinder at a good price...but until then, I'll go visit Gussy.

Hey man, it's great that you have someone that you know and can trust. Sounds like he is a stand up sorta butcher guy, good for Ya! It still wouldn't be a bad thing having that grinder to make sausage with. I have a lot of fun making that stuff and then sharing it with everyone. Like I said, if you get interested in one check out those on E-bay there are some really good deals on there. Again, great job on getting two in the freezer! I got some catchin up to do, I'm not sittin out another year!

I know what you mean...there are others around here like that. Gussy gives you ten days to pick up your meat AFTER he calls to tell you it's ready before you pay a storage fee. The fella I was talking about above called me on a Tuesday, I get there on Thursday and he proceeds to tell me that he sold my meat and gave my cooler away because I did not pick up the meat on time! I was very ticked off to say the least and was very adamant about telling him what I thought of his business practices. I do know that some processors will keep un-claimed, non-picked up, unpaid for meat until the season goes out and then sell it to anyone who comes in for the price of the processing fee...that way they're not selling wild game but only collecting their processing fee....but this guy had sold my meat AND gave away my $40.00 cooler after a day of storage!!! Gussy called me last Thursday to tell me mine was done. I told him I would be by there Monday to pick it up. His reply was no problem, see you then. We got back in town early enough yesterday that I went by there yesterday evening and picked it up.
