Had my Tech License for less that a month and now have my General License. I havent decided if I want to go and take the Extra or not. Only reason I took the General was because I have a HF radio and figured why not get my General license so I can play with some of the HF side.

Congratulations! HF is where the fun is in my opinion. On contest weekends it can be crazy. I've made some wonderful contacts all over the world on HF. It's a lot of fun.
I never upgraded to Extra. I bought the book and started studying but it was a lot more intense than General. I would like to have the extra space on the bands. Maybe someday.

Good for you! I plan on taking mine in a couple weeks I think. Just passed my tech and studying a little. Definately want to get general. Do not really care for extra. Have fun. Now I have to go find a radidio to play with. Jim

The benefit of Extra is that some foreign countries have most of the HF operators on those portions of the band only open to the Extra class here in the U.S. I'll listen in sometimes and it drives me crazy hearing a contact that I really want but cannot get because it is outside my allotted range. Other than that occassional problem, General gets me everywhere I need to go on Ham Radio.

I usually learn things fast adn easy...but for some reason, one of this seems to be sticking! I tried my General at the same time as my Tech. But I missed passing by 1 question. Oh well. So I waited a week and went back and took the General. But hey it is free to try! I have electronics background. I have BS in electronics. So most sticks but there is a lot that doesn't also. hehehe

Congratulations! Check out the digital modes, they are great as well. My favorite is SSB/HF there is where all the action is.
