My Leatherman Wave has a leather sheath with no pouches on either side. Jim I know, you must have a newer wave. The tool is still good I just don't like the newer pouches they put them in, no extra pockets. They should rethink this and make the pouch with extra pockets...thanks for posting

Actually it is around 8 or 9 years old. I got it right after they changed designs and went to larger blades, all locking, etc. in 2003. But it did come new with the older style brown leather sheath (Leatherman Wave logo on flap). I have several other Leatherman (trades, gotta haves ;D, presents) but have carried the Wave all the time for years.

I do have an new Leatherman Core that has a nylon sheath, and it is quite a bit bigger than the Wave. Looks like I could use it with my Wave and there would be room for a firesteel and striker. Okay that is what I think I will do, it fits just fine. Thanks for getting me on that thought train Jim

One more thing fluff up some jute and cram it in there somewhere, now you have tinder and your ready to go.

Are the pouches closed at the bottom? My wave's sheath only has elastic at the sides, not actual pockets or pouches for holding anything. They could be easily stitched closed. Ok it has two one on the side, a small pocket on the front under the Velcro great place for a couple of quarters also one on the inside of the back panel . One more thing where the belt loop is, at the top and bottom of the belt loop are two smaller loops that cross the larger belt loop. these could be used to change the position of the pouch from up and down to parallel to your belt. Here is another one the pouch will hold your wave opened or closed, i prefer to carry mine closed unless i need it for a project then i will pouch it opened just in case you didn't know ;D
