Sneeking up on your cat and grabing it while it doses in the sun is great practice for stalking. Sneaking up on a dog is too easy, but a cat is pretty hard.
I also sneak up on our chickens (easy) Quail (Bobwhites are hard and Red Mountain are easy) our running loose rabbits (impossible) with them getting close is a win. Ducks (if you come up behind them its easy)
Practice Practice Practice.

I used to do that all the time with whitetail deer when I lived in Texas. Can't hardly do it here in Arkansas, too much leaf litter on the forest floor, although if I can get on a semi clean logging road or something like that I can usually slip right up to them. Especially if the wind is good to my favor. I gotta say it's pretty danged exciting when you can slip up on a doe and arrow her while on the ground eye level with her!

Yep, I have practiced my whole life. You don't necessarily have to be out in the woods to practice improving stalking skills either! Practice anywhere you are, everytime you walk. I've stalked squirrels in my front yard. Slip up on one of those little unsuspecting tree rats out in the bird feeder and tap him on the tail! They go absolutely BALLISTIC!

The squirrels here would be the challenge. Our felines are perpetually alert against excursions involving a cat carrier. No carrier, no problem.

I like to sneak up on people at walmart and try to look in their buggy without them seeing me ;D. . . . . . . On a less creepy note I just tried it on out on our house cat, creep up on him with no problem but hes a lazy thing probably knew I was coming just to lazy to look. I will give it a try with one of the strays that come around every now and then.

I can sneak up on myself! And, yes, every step is practice. You'd be amazed at how simple it is to practice, and it can be fun, too. It's all in being quiet and not making sudden movements. Sit still long enough in a forest, the wildlife will pretty much come to you.

I've tried repeatedly to make this video, but every time I do so, I scare myself and drop the camera, thus ruining the video...

I took the Aftercare kids outside today since we finally had a dry playground area. There is a section of log and several shorter chunks in one area. A bunch of kids lined up on the log while a shorter line of kids called out orders to jump, tiptoe, walk, etc. on the log. I snuck up behind them and, when within grabbing distance, started barking like a dog. Since I'm a gal, my bark sounded like a small dog's yap, maybe beagle size. One preK kid promptly stepped off the log he was laughing so hard. The kids giving the orders thought it was pretty funny too.

Had a chipmunk and two squirrels crawl across me while deer hunting this year. Not sneaking but just sitting still and quiet.
