When at Lowes earlier today, I discovered a new (to me) product. It's called a Zerust no-rust vapor capsule. It claims to work for up to one year adding rust and corrosion protection to metals that lasts for several years. It also claims to have a working radius of 2 feet from the small, 1" x 2" x .75" capsule, itself. The package recommends tossing the capsule into a tackle box to protect fishing gear, or into a tool box to protect tools. I tossed mine into a large storage box with about two dozen quality knives, including my really nice CrashBlades. The model number of the capsule I bought is the VC2-1. Their website is www.zerust.com. I also found a video with an overly simplified demo of how it works: I hope this works well...I'll keep y'all posted. cwi555...any thoughts on this??? For what it's worth...

The capsule doesn't work very well for the application in my experience. The capsules are better used for electronics as the housing of those electronics usually are the only part that is interacted with. It doesn't take much to rub the film off those capsules create. We apply them via creating a vapor barrier of plastic and duct tape underneath the dash of a new vehicle. just before the last strip of tape, drop 3 of them in and let it sit for a day. For small electronics such as walkies or GPS etc, we put them in a plastic bin, and drop a few in. Electronics don't play well with a salt air environment. It usually takes several years, but that salt air environment usually creates corrosion issues that first manifest themselves in the turn signal or break light systems. The contacts get corroded and your off to the mechanic. For the purpose of protecting knives or firearms their bags and papers do work well, especially the 510C variants. www.zerust.com/product/film/ict510cferrousfilm I believe they are available through Amazon.
