I use Lee equipment as well, and have had good success with A2230 for my 223 loads.

PJ...Lee makes some good stuff but when I buy Lee dies I remove their "new" lock washer (the one with the O ring) and replace it with a set screw lock washer. I really like their crimp dies and have one set up on my Dillon 550B reloading block for the .40 S&W and another I use on my .45 ACP reloading block.

Right on Alex, nice set up you have there. Just curious as to why you remove the Lee lock washer?

Thanks for the compliment. That photo was last year sometime and I was loading .223's. I am sorry for calling it a lock washer the other day...I was referring to their "O Ring Lock Nut". I remove it because it does not give me a positive locked feeling. I had a die move once using their O Ring Lock Nut and that was it. I removed theirs and replaced it with a RCBS set screw lock nut and never had anymore problems.

Ok got it, thanks for the response. Makes complete sense!
It's all about personal preference.

Hey guys. I have a bunch of brass and a bunch of serria matchking in .223 55gr and a bunch of IMR3031. I used the 3031 in my 7.62 reloads with good results, though it was slow and going subsonic at around 750 yards (calculated). I was wondering if any one has tried the 3031/.223 combo in a gas gun and what results you have seen. I think I want to crimp these as they will not be so much for accuracy/precision shooting. I'm in the same situation. I have POUNDS of 3031 that I got in on a trade, I use VARGET for 90% of my loading in 223/308/30-06 and even the 45-70. Varget is a VERY usefull powder. BUT WHAT TO DO WITH THE 3031??? This is what I'm going to do. ... I'm going to load and test different grain weights for accuracy with 55 - 64 gr bullets I have laying around. When I find an accurate load, I'm going to do the Rapid Fire Run and Gun with it to see how it performs going flat out. If it passes, then it gets loaded up. I did this same test with DATA 2200 powder (Ball Powder) and it failed MISERABLY, just like I thought it would. The ball was so dirty, it locked my M4 up after 20 rapid fire rounds. This is a "NO GO" in my book. Works great in a bolt gun, but for the M4....NO WAY. 3031 as you know is a Stick Powder. And I think it will be just fine. Tests will tell. WC

WC Let me know how it goes, I have a couple pounds of the stuff. I could reserve it for my 308 I suppose.
