Given what I carry on my person vs what's in my car, I'd have to say that all the other stuff you mention (minus the caps -- still can't get 'em at our WalMart) is my car's EDC. My Wave lives on my belt or in a pocket on the days that I'm beltless. The rest of the stuff lives in my butt pack since the kids got too nosy about my key lanyard. I didn't want them to see everything, so I had to move things around a bit.

EDC....mag bar w/ ferro rod, Stand alone Ferro rod, High Carbon striker forged from a file, flint, char cloth, mini altoids tin for making more char cloth if needed...and a standard butane lighter....this is every day...day in day out....I've got three or four sources of fire with me at all times! My edc is just a ferro rod that I carry in the same sheath as my leathermen wave. I know for a fact that with all the practice i do, this is plenty. now when I go on my outings I carry a firesteel, flint and steel, burning glass, bic lighter and toy caps. I also carry charcloth, candle stubs, jute twine, ceder shaving, pine pitch, and fatwood Ditto on this post. Everything you need to build a fire right at your fingertips.

Just when I feel comfortable with my fire preps you all have to go and make me look like a rookie. I EDC a firesteel and my supertool 300 that I have started many with, along with a bic lighter. I have had great success on picking up native growings to start most of my fires with and am quite pleased with my abilities. Hopefully that is enough when the time comes. Call me being ignorant but I just don't feel like carrying ten different ways of starting fire is needed in my case. Hopefully I am not proven wrong. Hopefully I never need to find out.

I agree, some people EDC way to much, but if you have more fire prep in your car or truck that's fine. I only EDC a firesteel and a small flat light that all fits in my leathermen wave sheath.

I would vote for fire steel. It is low tech, simple, works even in wet conditions, and lasts a long time.

I have to disagree...I feel that many people put to much faith on only one method of fire starting. My list may seem long but it all fits in a Nite Ize pouch that I carry every day and use at work.

It's all good alex if you feel the need to carry all that on your person each and every day you must have a good reason ;D
