last hog (not deer unfortunately) was 17 kms (just over 10 miles) from the kill site to the camp site, fortunately the 8kms from the camp site to the vehicles had atv access so we didnt have to lump it all the way back there too.
there are no areas down here where stuff is that close to roads, you have to get right out in the bush to find bigger game

The general rule of thumb around here is, no one hunts farther from the road than they can see from the truck. The jack arses. I hunt in the middle of about 600 combined acres of family land and have four wheeler access to all of it, so it's pretty easy now. In my younger years I would head off into oblivion and drag em back. But I got older and wiser. LOL

I have 5 places I hunt...so it varies. The closest is about 100 yards from the road which is behind me...the farthest takes about 15 minutes via 4 wheeler on a clear path through thick woods and steep ridges to get within a decent range of my stand...If I have to drag a deer, I use a small cart with wheels, otherwise I strap it on or behind the 4 wheeler and carry or drag it out.

Most of the time about 100 yards from the back door, but I have been as far as 10 miles while doing a spot and stalk with a friend. It only happened one time and we were on the east end of NC. To be honest Im glad he missed and it got dark, cause I didn't want to carry the meat and head that far ;D

We only hunt the farms. A bit better than 940 acres combined among our members, and soon to add another 240. With one way in, one way out for all of it. We stay clear of the one road by at least 500 yards minimum.

Most of my spots are are a good 30 minutes hike from where I park. This usually puts me in the middle of the block equal distance from any road....and was Brad says when we HALO... FINDa spot to camp: )

I hunt on 56 acres and just got access to another 169 acres. The 56 is our family land. It can be walked across in 30 minutes. I was able to drive my truck within 65 yards of the deer I killed opening weekend. The 169 acres has one access road cut in and the first ground blind is 150 yards off the main public road but 25 feet off the club road. There's a power line on it and there's a tower that is less than 100 yards off the public road. Here in Ga you have to be a minimum of 50 yards away from a public, county maintained road.
