Bought two raffle tickets a few weeks ago and found out I won first prize.
I get my pick of one of the following.
Savage Axis 270 with stainless barrel and 3-9X40 Bushnell Scope or a Walther P22 with laser
Kind of leaning toward the Walther P22. Would make a nice carry for the wife. Her Colt 380 was stolen a few years ago.

I think you would be happier with the rifle in the long term. The walthers are prone to have 'Issues' with operation. Failure to feed, fire, eject, at least in the ones I have been around and fired. I see a bunch of them in the used market. There are bound to be some good ones out there, I have heard that some of them work ok, maybe they fixed them. ? Good luck.

Now that's a great thing.. congrats.. Figure out which one costs the most, take it, sell it and then buy what you want if neither are high on your list.

I think it far more likely to get more value out of the savage. Worst case you could trade it for another carry pistol for your wife. I agree with CWI, go with the Savage and if you still want to get your wife a carry pistol, you can either sell or trade it to get her something really worthwhile.

I have a friend with a p22. He's always trying to sell it to someone. I guess he isn't happy with it for one reason or another. Though I believe it has a threaded barrell for if you want a silencer, which is nice. My vote would go with the Savage. I think it would be the more valuable of the two anyway. Not sure.

Myself I would take the 270. But that p22 would be fun and cheap to shoot. Flip a coin

I had a Walther...note I said "HAD". That was one mistake I'll never make again. I liked the way it felt in the hand....but that is where the love affair ended! To many problems...which eventually led me to putting a bullet hole in the floor board of my truck!!!! I sold it for a loss and never looked back.

I screwed up big time. Left the job site and went by and picked up the pistol. I have no way to check the computer during the day unless I come home.
I put 100 rounds through it with no problems so far. There is one thing I noticed I didn't like right off. There's no way I've found yet to put the hammer down after racking a round.
Maybe I'll sell it. But I can't beat the price free so what ever I do will be a plus.

Hey, it's a bonus. Congratulations and let us know how it performs for you. Maybe as Redneckidokie says, they worked out the kinks.

If you put the pistol in "Safe" and pull the trigger...the hammer flies forward striking the block and reverting the handgun to double action. I NEVER liked this type of safety. I was letting the hammer down once by hand (holding the hammer and easing down) I was used to letting the hammer down on my 1911 this way (hand gun must be on fire and safety grips engaged) The hammer of the Walther was less than an 1/8" from the firing pin and it slipped....Boom...hole in the bottom of the truck!

I would go with the Savage also just for the better value like CWI said.
As for the Walther P22, I have one and love it. Never had any issues with it. Great little gun. Best 22 pistol I have ever owned. Sounds like I either got a good one or they have since fixed them.
