I’m a 12 GA guy, and always have been. I am also pretty decent with them, so I’m a big believer in the sheer utility of scatterguns. A friend bought a new Mossberg auto loader, so we went outside to play. www.mossberg.com/products/shotguns/mossberg-930-signature-high-performance/jm-pro-tactical-class
I am really quite impressed. I personally fed it just under 70 rounds of cheap Walmart shells without a burp. I personally shot a mixture of Winchester Universal # 7-1/2 birdshot, Federal target load # 8 birdshot, Remington 00 Buck, Remington Slugger and a bunch of new and old miscellaneous bird/buck loads too. All of mine 2-3/4”, but he runs all 3” with the same results. I have full confidence that it will like my expensive heavy loads too.
So far, this gun has over 550 rounds down the pipe without cleaning. (BUT, he does throw a small amount of lube on the action every so often) The auto-load design is clean, crisp and responsive, regardless of how fast you can pull the trigger. (I'm guessing 5 lbs.) If you want to, all 9 rounds are down range before you can take a breath. Pretty impressive firepower if you know how various types of shot and slugs perform between 1 and 150+ yards. Locally, this thing sells for $599. and now I’m seriously wondering if the Saiga 12 needs to occupy space in an already crowded gun safe.
Hunkered down in a SHTF scenario, this is thing would have some serious value to me. As with any auto loader, I would not expect it to cycle properly with light loads and exotic shells, but that’s not what I use. Sure, it will eventually break, so I would grab a different gun if needed. But, in the mean time...........
