Had a break today so I headed to the local indoor range. They have 50' pistol lanes and two 25 yd rifle lanes. I took the new AR and my modified 10/22. The AR sites took me a little while to figure out and then to draw in. I think that I'm to look for some optics (cant convince myself to go all in for the EOTech though). Only one fail to eject and I think I didn't have the mag in tight and the rifle was pretty hot. Interestingly, it was with the metal mag. Had no problems with the pmags. Put 120 rounds total, half were PmC and half were Amer Eagle.
Now, for the .22...shot it first on the 50' lane and had some good suggest. I have a cheap red dot site on it. Don't really love it but it was my first venture into dot type sites. When I went to the 25 yd range, I couldn't hit the target. Figured out that the rail was loose. When I got home, I found out that one of the female threads in the rifle were stripped. I regret "tricking" out such a good rifle. I'm going back to the orig composite stock and open sites. If I can find a good deal on another SS 10/22 I might leave one of them tricked. But, I think for reliability i need to KISS (keep it simple stupid) and have a good unmodified rifle.

Just to be clear, anyday at the range is automatically a good day!

I also modified a handgun for the wife to hunt with. That red dot was fun at the range, but out in the woods it was cumber sum and a general pain. After this season I was requested to return it regular sights. Good and simple always works.

FWIW, I would rethink the Eotech for some other reflex sight, I have not been overly happy with mine. Blurry when turned up, and hard to see clearly. Seems to be a common complaint. Good times shooting.

What did you do to the 10/22 other than the sight? What stock did you change it out to?

Sounds like a good day at the range. I have Aimpoints and Eotechs and I find them both to be very nice optics. For the quickest engagements at short range I prefer the "halo" ring that the Eotech provides, versus the dot the Aimpoint only provides. Just personal preference, both have been good for me.

What did you do to the 10/22 other than the sight? What stock did you change it out to? I guess it was just the sight and the stock, so tricked out is not the right description. I was/am disappointed in it though. The stock is a Tapco. I don't like the fact that I couldn't use open sites with it. I'm either going back to the original composite or the folding butler creek that I first put on it.
