One word to describe the camp out ..wet It rained off and on all day, you had to look real hard to find wood that was less wet. Where I found the driest wood was in the pine trees, broke off the lower branches i could find. Then took my knife and battoned the pencil sized branches to pencil lead size. Someone handed me a home made fire starter, wax, dryer lint and one piece of egg carton. I lit that and slowly added the carefully selected kindling piece by piece. It took some work getting it going but once we got a bed of coals it was all good. Two other guys showed up and started chopping down standing dead wood...oak. Once they got em chopped down and cut to size the fire never had a chance to fail. Some nice people over at BCUSA and will go every chance i get

Our Scout Troop camped, not too far South of you this weekend, at Camp Falling Rock. A wet, but fun weekend. Looks like you had a good time outdoors . . . as usual.
O.S.

And did those Scouts complain and come home early because of a little rain?.. Nooooo, only the big bad Bushcrafters... lmao.. Ok OT, I'm just picking a little here.. I loved being a Boy Scout and we did a lot in the rain..and even more when it wasn't raining.. Philmont in the rain was the ultimate though for a bunch of teenagers.

One thing about it, that you have to admit......
It's good practice to work out the problems of everything being wet. Nope not much fun, but real world and great practice. Real life scenaio, one will have to deal with whatever weather mother nature throws at ya.
Good job as I see it. Good practice. 2 thumbs up, OT!!

Missasip, I was thinking the same thought. The boyscouts were being shown the difficulties of starting a fire in rain drenched surroundings, from finding dry tinder to using simple aids brought from home to start it and keep it lit. I hope they were paying attention. ;D

Jimmy Thanks Jimmy it was good practice and it was fun trying to find something kind of dry to start the fire. I walked around quite a bit looking for anything dry that might work. I found a tree that fell over and was split opened at one end. I found some punk inside that tree that felt dry. But it would not catch a spark from a firesteel no matter how hard I tried. So I took to the pine trees and broke off some small limbs at the bottom of the trees. Yes they were also wet but snapped when broken off. This was used with a fire starter to get it going. There was no dry tinder to be found and needed a lighter and a home made fire starter to catch the split pine wood branches on fire. In a survival situation with wet condition's, the fire prep you carry may be your only chance at getting a fire going. I believe i could have started a fire without the wax firestarter but it would have taken a lot more time. Buy the way it's still raining and has not stopped since Thursday night.....bummer heavy sigh.
