I purchased a Hennessy Deluxe Explorer Hammock with A-Sym Zip about 2 years ago from hennessyhammock.com/ and used it several times. BTW, best time to buy is during the holidays...the guy gives you free skins and lets you upgrade to a larger Hex Fly at no cost. I have no complains about it and has actually worked out well for me since I have lower back problems from my law enforcement days. I've used the hammock on chily days and as well during the summer. During the chily days I use a pad on the bottom and a nice wool blanket to keep me nice and warm. During the summer time I use the pad alone and works just fine. At first it took me a while to set up the hammock...yes, I'm a bit slow when it comes to these things and then I found this guy on youtube with a great way to set up the hammock in 5 minutes. What kind of sleeping system do you prefer while out in the woods ? Do you find yourself more comfortable in a tent, hammock, vivy bag or whatever floats your boat. Please share your thoughts and ideas with the forum so we can get the data base cranking

I love my hennessy. It is very comfortable and I sleep like a baby. I bought mine last winter and I got snake skins, aigger tarp and a youth hammock. Now my grandaughter loves her hammock also.

I've been wanting to order a good hammock for a couple years now but for some reason I keep putting it off. Maybe this will spur me to finally buy one.

I recently bought an inexpensive hammock on ebay. I had it up in just a couple minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the next several hours. Still, I wouldn't want to do more than nap in a hammock. I move too much in my sleep, get up way too many times in the night, and just prefer being on solid ground for real snoozing. Hennessy hammocks are way beyond my budget

@ Scoper 27, my suggestion is to look around and hold out until the holidays because you can get a great deal.
@ angelhelp, I wanted a hammock for a while and I set my eyes on Hennessy. Yes they are pricey but worth every penny. I had to save up for a long time in order to purchase mine and I finally got one 2 years ago. They also threw in a youth hammock for the same price. My son is using that one. Save and shop around...there are lots of great hammocks out there for a cheaper price.

I've got a clark. It was expensive, like more than some guns I own, but I love it! One of the best camping investments I ever made!

We use ENO Double-nested hammocks. Our 1st outing with hammocks was a nightmare as we were uncomfortable and nearly froze to death. But after doing a little research with some here:) we decided to give it another try. In our Camp Shelby video series we used these Enos and will never sleep on ground again!

As for hammocks, I use a 6x8 nylon cargo net, two carabiners, and 550 para cord. Then suspend a tarp over it. If you put two branches/ sticks across both ends it will spread the net out so you don't become constrained. Yeah I know it's get to,but........ I refuse to use a hammock when camping in areas with a lot of big cats, just seems like I would become a swinging toy for the kitty Other than tha I still love my tents, got a body bag from the coroner for a bivy, bought a replacement pole for a real bivy. Then stitched in some velcrow to secure the pole. Now there is head room
I do miss sleeping on the ground and using a saddle for a pillow tho

There is something I was reluctant to post about. Last year someone had said use a body bag as a bivy. My daughter works in a hospital and I had here sell me a couple of body bags. an the work very well as a bivy, ground cloth, and outside layer in the rain.
I have one of the USMC sleep systems which works very will all on its own, but I will sleep in the hammock unless it is super cold, than a raised bed, or the ground in that order.

Heap it was from ST that I got the idea from, I stitched the Velcro on with 3/0 uni-thread and silicon glue between Velcro and bag works real good if you don't like it laying on your face

I'll stay on the ground! The way I sleep, well, I couldn't sleep in a hammock. They're nice to relax in but, that it for me. I lay my sleeping bag on top of an air matress or foam and I'm good to go.

I have been hammock camping for 5 or 6 years now, I love it! It takes a little practice and some tweeking but you can sleep in any conditions in a hammock. The coldest I've slept was around 17 degrees, I was warm and comfy and slept all night. I'm confident that I could sleep in even colder conditions, but I live in the south, I'd have to travel somewhere to get any colder lol. Someone had to wake up up to make me get up to go hunting that morning, It really sucked having to get out of my warm comfy bed!! I have hammocks for my whole family and even an extra or two for others to try out!!

I've got a Claytor no net and love it. I set up just like the other fella in video with a set of straps and a set of descender rings....the difference is I use a ridge line, my decender rings are attached directly to the hammock and my straps are 15' long. I go around the tree with the straps and run them through the descender rings similar to how he did it (same concept) and pull the hammock set up tight to the ridge line. By using a ridge line this allows me to set the hammock up the same way every time with the same amount of sag. It's double layered so I stuff a closed cell foam pad under me and then my "Poncho Pod" around/over me. Here's the hammock set up for a friend (thus the blue poly tarp) that's me sitting down eating while my buddy is getting his meal ready. and here's my DIY hammock with the same set up for straps using a Jacks R Better tarp. You can also see my "Poncho Pod" weather guard, insulator in both photos.
