I went over to my Mom’s today to help her with some yard work. She wanted some oak trees trimmed because their limbs were hanging too low. She produced a new Oregon battery powered chain saw for me to work with. Long story short, it’s a total piece of crap, don’t waste your money buying one. It took in excess of 5 minutes of cutting time per 4 inch limb. The thing was brand new, so it couldn’t have been the chain being dull right? I tried the built in sharpener and made sure the bar was being lubed, but the cutting remained painfully slow. The chain tensioning hand screw failed to keep the chain snug and I had to keep fooling with it. After about four 4” limbs, the first lithium ion battery died. To its credit, that was about 20 minutes of saw time. By this time, I was fed up with the Oregon chain saw. I fetched my Cold Steel rifleman’s hawk from my truck and proceeded to cut through the remaining oak limbs as if they were made of butter. My hawk was literally 3-4x faster working than the Oregon chain saw. I’ve never been so disappointed in a chainsaw and impressed with a hand-tool. www.russopower.com/products/oregon-powernow-40v-max-chainsaw/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shop&utm_campaign=feed&gclid=CJiB3bXekLQCFQ0GnQodSnkAIQ

For the $500 sticker price you probably would have been better off spending $100 and getting a pro to do it, keeps the economy churning eh

Update-
The whole matter was bothering me and I returned to my Mom's today and examined the saw. As I suspected, she had installed the chain backwards. I reversed it and took it out for a test drive. The saw has been vindicated. It cut wood like butta....

It's only used when noise is an issue. Cheap too.... ;D Jimmy

I'm confused. Every chainsaw I bought came with the chain already on the blade with a safety guard covering both.
Why would your mom have to be installing a chain on the blade. That's a safety issue that should be reported to the company.

Dono. The chain was on backwards. When I told my Mom the problem, she never actually admitted she put the chain on the saw. Maybe it did come like that from the factory. I'll have to follow up on it with Mom.

This thread reminds me of a story.......
A man is looking for a chainsaw. The salesman in a hardware store recommends a particular brand, guaranteeing that He will be able to cut 10 cords of wood a day with it. This guarantee convinces the man to buy it. He returns it a few days later saying "you lied to me - I was only able to cut 4 cords of wood a day".
The salesman is dismayed. He relates to the customer that everybody that has purchased one has been pleased. He then says "Let's take it out back so I can check it out".
They get out back - the salesman pulls on the cord and fires it up.
The customer says "What's that noise"?

LOL yeah sometimes you have to read the instructions.... even though you are a man.. Will, don't question your Mom.. IF she put it on she'll just feel bad.. it's all in the past, you got it to work and all is right with the saw now.. no harm no foul..

Many chainsaws come with the the blade and chain uninstalled for packaging purposes. I had a man bring me a Kubota tractor once with a finish mower. He asked me to sharpen the blades for him. I agreed and when I went to remove the blades I noticed right off they had been installed upside down! I turned them over and viola! Brand new blades! He was amazed at my sharpening skills

Learned something new today Ducky Wucky, although it's high unlikely I'll ever order a chainsaw through the mail.
