Tough to beat a Buck 110 Folding Hunter. O.S. I have never been able to get one to hold an edge, though I have tried many times on different knives.

The Case Stockman was what my Grand Father carried. He was a pipe smoker and he was always using it to clean out his pipe or his finger nails with the smaller blade. But the main blade was like a razor and castrated many a calf and hog.

Another vote for the Victorionox Huntsman. Carried a Shrade and a Case most of my high school years...then my bestfriends dad gave me a Huntsman for my birthdsy.....other 2 still in box in gunroom..... and yes ..The Huntsman is still in the family...Bradley has it... he will pass it to Tootie or Jasper when old enough...or to his kids when he has one. Not saying its better than a Case...just more versitile

This knife is this shape, which is weird because it has a "hump" in the blade that I would have no way of knowing how if I had to sharpen it. Although I never will and propabaly wouldn't ever have to, it is very sharp. www.knifemakersdatabase.com/Custo....Elishewitz.htmlMy version has a corporate logo in place of the spider web or whatever is on the picture and was presented (along with a nice check) as a prize for bringing in a project early and under budget. I have a picture of it when it was presented that I will post if I can find it. My actual knife is in a safe deposit box along with some equally expensive watches and other objects, received for other projects , that I will never wear or use. However, I did cash the checks edit forget the link

Some forms can be used as high speed steel.[1] Chromium and vanadium both make the steel more hardenable. Chromium also helps resist abrasion, oxidation, and corrosion.[2] Chromium and carbon can both improve elasticity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrome_vanadium

Case is the only pocket knife I have every carried. I have a fairly good collection of them. Though I only carry Trappers. Never had a Stockman, but it's a Case, so it has to be a great tool.
You can carry them for a lifetime and as a life saver...
