My grandsons wanted knives for Christmas and their Dad's thought it would be nice if they got one their Pappy had carried/owned. So I mailed off a couple of my Schrade Old Timer Stockman knives. Now I want to replace them.
I'm looking at Schrade and Case Large Stockman (about 4 inches closed) knives with Clip, Spay and Sheep's foot blades. Also took a look at the Bear Stockman.
Any suggestions?

I prefer Case over Schrade. Never used Bear knives. Mostly it's just personal preference with those three brands though. From what I have experienced with the two and read of the third they are of similar quality.

So many knives.....so little time. I haven't bought any folders for a while now, but I do like Case, Shrade and Buck knives. I just finished sharpening a lightweight Coleman Western folder that I've had for probably 30 years.
Have you thought about a custom or handmade?

I have a Kershaw that has been absolutely fantastic. Today I used it to cut ribs on a deer killed this morning. Did most of it with the Mudcutter though

Try a Victorinox super tinker, tinker, hunter. Lots of great blades and great features beyond the blade.

I love my Old Timer Stockman. I wonder if they're still made in America?

Dang, those are nice knives Woodyz. Think I found what I was looking for at a Mom and Pop (Willie and Rachael's knive shop). Didn't even know it was there and it's just down the road about 30 min.!!! They DO have the knives. I know they make a lot of modern blades but there's just something nostalgic about the Case Stockman. I grew up with one in my pocket from my earliest memories. Was an old one with the point broken off and so dull it wouldn't cut hot butter but I "walked and talked" that thing to death. Next to a Buffalo Horn handle I cracked when putting it on . I'll drill it .159 or better next go round.

Try a Victorinox super tinker, tinker, hunter. Lots of great blades and great features beyond the blade. +1 for the Huntsman. If you didn't find what you wanted from that store I would've offered a spare soldatenmesser 08 (what the swiss army is currently issued) that I have.

Im a big fan of my Spyderco Delica. Carry it everyday and had it for a couple years now. For an American blade, the buck 110 is hard to beat IMO

Tough to beat a Buck 110 Folding Hunter. Should have asked how old your grandsons are. The 110 is a heavy duty (and pretty big) pocket knife. Probably too big for young, and maybe new knife carriers.
O.S.
