You ought to be getting your rain! We might get some this afternoon but it is likely to be sleet changing to snow and then ice. But yes, it's much welcomed water we just might have to wait for it to melt!

Huntinguy, a hospital is a tough place to be two days before Christmas.. I'm sure Wtrfwlr will bring us plenty of news (and hopefully pics) when he gets home.. hopefully he got his limit.. I bet he could've pulled that boat by himself as anxious as he was to get down there.. You are right, but its not so bad. My second child and first son were born yesterday. He aspirated some amniotic fluid and will be in the NICU a few days till his lungs clear. He's big and healthy full term baby otherwise. My hunting has been extremely abbreviated this year and even more so now. I miss the crunch of frosted grass under my feet, the sound of whistling wings, the smell of burned powder and a strong buck. Awesome! Hope the little guy is ok though. Prayers sent.

thousands of ducks this morning! They said a little lonesome hen call with a short hail call and the ducks were banging the tree tops to get in the hole. NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING is like having a huge group of Mallards landing on top of you in the timber. It is simply single best wildlife experience there is. Well, one of the top three anyway! ;D ;D ;D

I totally agree with that. It is something that has to be seen though to even slightly understand what its truly like. I took a man with me once that had hunted out of pit blinds in fields for years. I took him on a green timber hunt and it was one of those REALLY great days that come around every once in a great while. Well the ducks were there that morning and I had a huge group working my hole in short order. I told him to hold and not to shoot until I called the shot. I let em circle about three times without so much as a quack outta me and then I hit one real quick excited hen call and man o man here they came!!! It sounded like the trees were coming apart. I looked over at my buddy and he was shaking and trembling like a retriever over there waiting on me to call it! I set all those ducks on the water and they completely surrounded us, about 200 mallards! I let em sit there for just a little bit so he could get a real good look at them all swimming around and quacking away and such and then I just hollered out real loud "YOU DUCKS GET OUTTA HERE!!!" I thought that man was gonna faint! He said "Man! I ain't never seen nothing like that in all my days!" I told him "Yep, you never will either out there in those fields where ya'll just start blasting at em when their 80 yards away!" OH and yeah......I did let him shoot at the next couple groups I got in for him and he had his limit of green heads in short order.

Had a day exactly like that once in Southern IL at a public place called Oakwood Bottoms (maybe you know it?) Anyway, 100 plus bustin through limbs like crazy and the echo of the guns is not to be forgotten! There was a BIG pile of dead Mallards from the four of us. Best duck hunt ever!

I have not heard of that but I'll sure look it up. And yeah, those days are the ones that make all those other days where there were no birds and we were wet, cold, and generally miserable worth it!

There's a slow cold drizzly rain coming down right now and I AM foaming at the mouth to be out there in the middle of it! I'm trying to be a grown up here and take care stuff that needs doing...(work) but trust me, the second that gets handled I'm outta here for some Quack Quack BOOM!!!

As I'm sitting here at my computer on the carport, I heard a racket that can on mean one thing...
You guessed it, a flight of green heads just flew over and landed in the little pond behind my place. I eased down there and managed to count 14 before they flew out, there were more....
