I think we may need to have an apple pie "bake off". I got to thinking about this. I'm game. This is what I propose. Each contestant makes his or her batch. All contestants would send sample to an independent party that would label samples with a number and send those to volunteer judges for a blind taste test. Judges post points on color, taste, aroma, and strength balance. 5 points per category. Winner gets bragging rights. Anyone interested? Any tweaks proposed?

The hardest thing to do is pour that first 750 ml batch back into the distiller with another gallon of wash
But it takes the next batch to near 80 proof from 40 and its still smooth, not harsh like everclear

My Son has been after me to make a batch, he has a "buddy" he talks to in Australia or maybe Germany I think who he promised to send some. I am worried about sending it by mail in the US much less over the water, so I have been putting him off with excuses not to make it.
Maybe I will have to do a batch and take a chance though, I hope I can talk him out of sending it that far.
I sent Thywar a sample, I think I used a plastic peanut butter jar and bubble wrap and it got there OK
But I have not seen any further traffic on this so maybe no one things it is a good idea. I need some yeast and charcoal filters and about a week for them to fill the order, then 10 days to cook and one day to distill, so three weeks from go date.

He used an iced tea jar taped up bubble wrapped in a ziplock bag. Not a problem. I'm about to starting sucking on the debris in the bottom. That's some good stuff there Maynard.

If this contest does take off I volunteer to be a taster. I can see the headline now. "Naked lady rampages through New Orleans screaming "I am patula!" I sent Jimmy a mason jar packed in bubble wrap. Lots of it. Other than that, I use an empty whiskey bottle. JD makes stout bottles.
