howdy everyone. Looking for some opinions on the Henry US Survival Rifle in 22LR. Is it a reliable rifle, how's the accuracy? Is it a well made? They seem to sell in the 250 range if ya can find one right now. I'm looking for a 22 rifle that I can put in my motorcycle tour pack. Thanks. Here are some pics of it for those who haven't seen one.

It's the equivalent of buying a Raven .25 for a defensive pistol. Better than nothing, but not a gun I would choose if I had a choice. A Marlin Papoose or Ruger 10-22 takedown are waaaayyy better.

Both the Papoose and 10/22 TD are getting excellent reviews, good on you WILL for bringing them up

I would rather have one 10-22 Takedown than a dumptruck load of Henry's.
My opionon only

I agree with all said and prefer the 10/22 take down.
However, I had bought the Henry before the TD was available and I offer these few tips for anyone getting or having one.
The front sight blade on the one I bought was plastic and would bend to the side when stored. Not very condusive to accuracy.
I believe they now make a replacement front sight.
What I did was cut a wood replica of the plastic blade, which I remove when storing. A series of notches cut into the wooden blade help to re seat it properly.
It is a 10 round mag so I would buy additional mags and store them loaded.
I just use this as a buried weapon to be used when I have nothing else available.

I'd probably go with 1) Ruger 2) Marlin and 3) the Henry.... although I'd take the dump truck full of Henry's cause then I could use them to upgrade and barter.. My Momma raised a fool but it was one of my older brothers..

I'd strongly suggest looking at a Ruger Mark II or III pistol with a scope. I have one, and did a thread directly comparing it to my Charter Arms AR7 in the past. Bottom line, my Ruger was more reliable, much sturdier, packed smaller and was more accurate than the unscoped AR7. Putting a scope on the AR7 pretty much ruins the whole concept of that gun, since it no longer takes down. Bottom line, the Mark II was way more accurate than I ever thought it could be, and would pretty much do anything that needed doing with a .22 gun. If you've never tried a scoped .22 pistol, definatly do before you make a decision. The Ruger Charger is also a great choice, although I prefer iron sights as a back up option.

Rossi makes take down models as well just over a $100.00 interchangable barels .22 and .410 as well as others, single shot. They fit in my day pack and no one is the wiser. I also have the AR7 and like the Rossi quality better.

I have the Browning Buckmark and just as WILL posted about the Ruger it is very accurate and has had no mechanical failures.

All fold up into its own little bag. I highly recommend it as a pack/cache gun and as a first gun. Although it wasn't his first, he got a .22 a couple of years ago.

It is not something I would spend my money on due to having held one (never fired), broke one down, and re-assembled. For the money I would go for the new Ruger 10/22TD.

I like the Mark III and the BuckMark, either one would be the best option for a .22 pistol. Both have frustrating little glitches with breaking down and putting back together but in no way a show stopper.
I have scopes for them but don't keep them mounted. I have been trying out a ghost ring sight on the Ruger. At first I liked it, but I have removed it and put it on a .22 rifle for now.
