I went to the gun shop up the street to get my duck stamps on Dec. 22. Same story here as every where else, place was packed, 3 and 4 deep at the counter. Not a semi-auto in the rack. There were still pistols but there was a guy in there that I over heard... "Yeah give me that one and while your at it go ahead and give me a couple of those right beside that one too." They were literally accepting reservations for time on the indoor range!
This is the part of the story that is interesting although sorta sad in a way. The owner Don, who I know somewhat, came to the counter as I was buying my stamps and I made mention of how busy he was which he agreed. Then I made the comment about how he was going to end up having a great year. That is when he stopped and looked right at me with a dead serious sorta sad expression on his face and though he said yeah in a low voice as he slowly shook his head he also said "For all the wrong reasons"
I thought about that exchange quite a bit and I kinda felt sorry for Don which was weird because how do you feel bad for a guy that's making a boat load of money? I think it's because he is a good man and even though he is there to sell guns and make a living he was not at all comfortable with way it was happening. That must be a difficult position to be in for him. Much different than some of the stories of price gouging that we have all heard here lately.

Many who are in the business will soon be out of business. I dont find his reaction strange at all.
