Well I am venturing into bow making. I am making a Mollagabet bow. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjiPXuuKFa4Great channel. He makes all sorts of bows traditional and otherwise. I like the Mollagabet (Holmegaard) because of it's price, history, and effectiveness. $10 for a good sturdy easy to make flat bow. How can you pass on that? Pics will be coming as I go.

most of the successful bows that i have made came from red oak boards. the main thing in using boards, is you have to, have to find a board that follows the grain. i used to use the 1x2x6 red oak boards, but i found it easier to start with a 1x4x6 board. ive had a couple failures, but most of mine have been from boards. the last one i made, i had glued on siyahs that are rather chinese in style. ill have to see if i can dig up some pics. i really didnt think it would hold, but i believe it was 45lbs at 27" before i glued on the tips, i believe the bow was 55 inches long, with 8 inches of none bending handle area, and then 5 inches for the ends of the bow where the tips were glued on. so yeah, take lots of chances. lol.
anyways, look at the board, follow the rings. the rule is, you dont want, at the most, 2 ring run offs per limb. if you can find one where that is the case, then you can make a great bow!

actually found some pics.. yes, tiller appears to be off, but i promise it wasnt. lol close up of the tips. handle area. i generally make my handles 4 inches long with fades since i dont have large hands. you can also see the canvas backing that i put on before i started shooting it a lot. mostly just for protection in case it failed. lol and, idk a belly shot i was very happy with this bow, and i was actually looking at boards at home depot today, but didnt have much time. lol
