Would love to be showing you all pics of the huge boss Tom that strolled within 25 yd of my muzzle this morning at 615 am after gobbling the whole way in from his roost but.....the truth is I shot, he fell, and got back up. I did scape him, guess I was off by a hair or he moved at the last second. Been many years since I pulled the trigger and my bird didnt fall. Either way he took off and was not to be found. I should be all butt hurt but, it was such a beautiful morning and exciting hunt that for my own sanity Im looking at the 99% that went right instead of the 1% that didnt!

Nicely done there USCG.. sorry he didn't keel over for you though. Talked to Wtrfwlr this morning and he managed to call in a Jake.. (didn't shoot at him though) but the reason he called was because of the black bear that was roaming ahead of him. They've had bears in that area for quite awhile.

Well, the hunt is over for me for a while, didn't see as many birds this year as past years...lot of it had to do with what was or wasn't in the fields I normally sit around. And rain and snow.......Getting so a day in the rain isn't as much fun as it used to be.
Been having a problem with my gout this year, so Runnin' n Gunnin's is not in my book of tricks.
Took a hunting partner and the nephew, nephew passed on some jakes, couldn't get the big guy to come in....
Partner, shot three times and missed..... at what he says was a decent bird (read jake)...then spent the afternoon playing with his brand new magnetic shot gun sight, that moves every time you pull the trigger... If it were mine it would be in the brush, but because he is never wrong and spent the money he is gonna use it....weather he gets a bird or not.
Funny how you can tell what happens even if you can't see...One shot, dead bird....two shots, dead w/coup de gras.....three shots...gone, with expensive noise.
Woods seemed behind a few weeks, may apples not up yet and nothing green showing till the end of the week....
Was a good turkey hunt...just not a good turkey shoot..... Maybe this fall.......
