....Savage Axis in 30.06. Ended up at my favorite gun store and got it, a set of Leopold mounts and rings and a Nikon Prostaff 4x12x40 NP. And 4 boxes of ammo!!!! That's how many they let you have when you purchase a gun from them. They were actually $9 cheaper than Wal-Mart, plus mounted and bore-sighted the scope for free. They have a full time armorer on site all the time.
I decided on the Savage for several reasons. 1. Seems to be a great out of the box MOA weapon for a great price. $268.95. WM was $277 and kiss our a** out the door. My store puts their own lifetime warranty on every gun they sell. 2. Weight. It is a light weight in comparison to the Howa 1500 I had. Weight is everything for me these days. 3. It's magazine fed. I can have preloaded mags.... 4. Have owned several other Savage weapons in the past and all were great. In particular a 7mm-08 that was more accurite than I could shoot. 5. Very good reviews.
I looked at the Ruger American, Rem 700 ADL and Mossberg Deer Thugs. All good guns, but I just liked the fit and feel of the Savage.
Anyway hope to get a chance soon to try it out.
As a side note, I was gonna get it Wally World, but they had no ammo for it and I asked if they sold a gun don't you think you might want to at least have a box or two to sell with it...a shrug was all I got. Guess one sale lost don't matter huh, Thywar (he knew I was there to make the buy)....Pretty much that has done me in with WM as far as guns go anyway....

I am at a loss as to how Savage can produce such a rifle for the cost. I have one in .308 that is 1 MOA out of the box without any other work with factory premium rounds.

Jimmy, you done good. Glad you found what you were looking for AND with ammo. Good job. Sounds like your gun store did it right as well..

They're great rifles. I looked very closely at them, but at the time, I couldn't find one in .308 (just the caliber I was wanting at the time). I agree that the Axis felt better to me than some of the other manufacturers.
