I had this link sent to me after a long conversation with a friend. I pointed out how expensive it is to have to purchase hives and such to have bees in my orchard. He proceded to send me this link and point out that I already have all the material to construct at least a couple dozen of these!! Anyways...I plan to, if things don't get to busy this summer, construct a pair of these and if I am lucky then next spring I will be getting a couple queens and trying to start a couple hives of my own. I have a skunk population problem out of this world, so I will have to fence in around them, and set an electric wire around as well, since skunks LOVE to eat bees (I am thinking when they are in season, I need to thin the population)...but I think I could do this easy enough. I will be spreading a buttload of red top and white clover as well as lesbadeeza and alfalfa in my pastures among other grasses, to try and make sure when the bees get here, they will find established fields of flowers as well as my garden and orchard. I guess I will let you know how it goes if you are interested! www.instructables.com/id/55-Gallon-Top-Bar-Barrel-Bee-Hive/
