My general rule of thumb with any ammo type is there should be 1k rounds per gun at minimum; depending on the gun's remaining life, spare parts, expense of ammo being bought (1k of 500 S&W for instance is definitely out of the financial reach of most people), etc.

Check out the performance at 200 yards: almost 1200 ft lbs In terms of energy, that exceeds typical .30-30 and 7.62x39. Granted, it's slowing down but 1300 fps isn't exactly crawling at 200 yards for a 300gr projectile. www.hornady.com/store/12-GA-SST-Slug-300gr-SST/Maybe I can dig a up a rifled 12ga barrel somewhere to try these out
