Do you prefer spinning reels or bait cast rigs? Me, I own both but almost exclusively fish with spinning reels. What say you?

bait cast is my prefernce but then I usually bass fish (and eat them). I do like a good struggle on a spinning setup though.. they just seem uncomfortable in my hand but that's because I don't fish them enough. Heck a cane pole, line and a bobber works

I prefer bait casting and yes I eat the bass too. ;D
Caught many perch on those cane poles, sometimes it was just a bare hook, I thought that was hilarious.

I'm an open face man myself. Though I prefer the strength of a spin cast for catfish.

Here is a link to the different kinds of fishing reels. You would be surprised how many get it wrong fishingnoob.com/25/fishing-equipment-primer-the-reel/ I like and use spinning reels and I love Shimano reels. I also use the spincast reels all Zebcos. I do own a couple baitcaster but never got the hang of them so they sit on the shelf.

Haven't picked up a pole since I "left the left" coast, but dragging some chunks of squid or anchovies behind MLB 47231 or 280 was the morning ritual on the way to "patrol" the Diablo Canyon nuke plant. If the bar was breaking, Mustang suits came up and we awaited the inevitable SAR call. But then, I wasn't supposed to be aboard, so I wasn't aboard when my camera took this: Black cod, Rockcod, Ling Cod, Albacore, Salmon, Sand Dabs and shark were all there for the harvesting when you know where to look. We never pushed it, because there was always tomorrow. Why bother freezing it - just catch another few pounds and sell what you didn't need to the restaurants in the harbor. The shelf was flat out to about 3 miles and the trench was pretty deep 3000' in the AOR, so there was opportunity to find anything. (But then, none of us surfed or did any diving for Abalone either) Yep - drag some bait for sure! Marc

Do you all want to know the truth as to why i will not eat bass. Because i like catching and fighting them way to much. Just knowing that big bass I caught last week is still there waiting for another hook up...just makes my day. I will on occasion keep a smaller one but seldom do. I love pan fish and there are so many of them that you can't hurt the population. I'm a sportfisherman first, catch and release, and a meat fisherman second.

I've got literally hundreds of these, but this thread is about fishing. I sneaked these in because of the occupation of a certain member. In this one I was fishing for a billboard shot - and got it:

Just have to stay away from the really cheap ones that wal mart has on their little combo specials. My wife had the gears strip out in hers, though it was a size able fish involved. That's a good website also. I've always used the term open face cause most folks don't know what they're called. Seems like a lot of folks around here have gotten the idea that if you don't use a high end bait cast you're not a real fisherman.

Let them think what they want, i call them want to be pros...not. it's like this in my younger years i was a great pool player and beat many good players. After i ran the table on them the first question they would ask was. Nice stick what kind is it, my reply...it's a Kmart special They don't like the answer and most just walk away ;D ;D ;D. It's the same with fishing it's what you know that catches the fish but we knew that already

Yep. I've always got a kick out of seeing guys with their rod and reel combos running in the hundreds of dollars and bass boats that cost as much as new car come in complaining about not catching anything and then some old timer comes in with a beat up jon boat and cane poles with more fish than he can put in a cooler. The looks from the knuckleheads are priceless.

The looks from the knuckleheads are priceless. That's a fact there. but that's the American way of proving your in debt. Big Bass Boat vs. Jon boat, Rolex vs Timex, Lexus vs. Ford Focus and the list goes on.. in reality they all perform the same tasks just without the style.. oh wait.. Colt Woodsman vs. RG .22 single action six shooter..

I just looked at those CG pictures again and those are pretty spectacular and it takes someone pretty special to ride those babies and see that much water ON the boat..
