I posted about the Zello app on the old site a few days before it disappeared. It is a two way radio type of app that either runs off of a wifi connection or your cellular data connection. It is similar to the Nextel direct connect except you can either have a 1:1 conversation with someone or you can connect to a chat type channel. You can start your own channels and either have them open to everyone or have them password protected so only the ones you want can connect. If you put someone in your contacts you can have a 1 on 1 conversation.
I have been playing with it for about a month now and it is kinda addictive. There are a few chat channels I go to but I also use it to talk to my wife while I am at work because I have a wifi connection but not a cell signal.
I was thinking about opening a channel and putting instruction how to connect to it on here on here so that the members here can use it to talk to each other but I don't want to step on any toes.
Anyway, it is a fun app and can be quite useful. All the members of my immediate family have it on our phones and we can get on there and talk to everyone at once just as long as we have either a wifi or cell connection.
In any eve

My thought was to start a channel (ie. The Survival Bunler or what ever name is agreed upon) then post the channel name here so anyone here can connect to it and have real time conversations. It could also be used as an emergency type channel where members could communicate because it can work either off cell towers or wi-fi.

After experimenting with the app a bit it seems that you need a good signal for it to work without wi fi, which is a downer in my area with all these hill and hollows. Other than that it seems like it could be useful. Tried putting it on my daughter's ipod, but I think her's is to old to support it.
