OK, I was in a local sporting goods store this week and they had a ton of ammo for sale. They did not have a stitch of .22 lr. No one has it. Its like it all got sucked right off the earth. So, whats the deal? Where the heck is all the .22 ammo? And why is this happening? Hell, they produce it by the millions.

Panic buying has sucked it all up. Lots of people bought it for resale, bringing upwards of $100 or MORE for a 550 brick.
All last summer, I was saying "Buy it now, You will never see prices this low or stockage this high again."

Same here in Michigan, $60.00- $80.00 a brick if and when your lucky enough to find them, if you do find them many stores have a 1 box maximum allowed per day. I go to the gun range about once a month if I find ammo, the gun range is getting pretty lonely since the ammo shortage. I still see shotgun shells on the shelves and occasionally buy a box. In a SHTF senario I'll be glad to have them for security and hunting better than nothing.

I've also heard many folks talk about using them in self defense in the event there is an uprising. When I explained that someone wearing modern body armor is not even gonna feel that little bugger they look at me like I'm stupid or something.

I agree - it's still people stocking up. Folks around here who used to have a couple of thousand rounds, now think much larger numbers. Having been bitten once, they won't let it happen again.
Still lots and lots of 12ga out there - and still reasonably cheap. I'm a serious fan of 00, #4 buck and slugs. But, (100) rd boxes of Federal and Winchester 2-3/4" #7-1/2 bird shot are $22. to $26. - even cheaper for full cases during a sale. With enough energy to push 1-1/8 oz of lead shot out of the barrel at 1200 fps, you can get real creative...............

Actually, the reason they are so hard to finds is due to a chain of events There are only 3 plants that manufacture.22 ammo . Last November one of These shut down to modernize a d retool. The other 2 ants Increased production to cover demand. Unfortunatly one of the 2 remaining plant had a fire and burnt to the ground. We currently have just one plant in the US making .22 ammo and they running 3 shifts. They just can't keep up. The plant refitting should come back online end of next month

I thought 2k would be enough for awhile and now I wished I had bought a brick a week while I could.

Federal is owned by ATK - the same company that owns CCI. Federal, CCI, Remington and Winchester bulk packs show up sporadically on store shelves.

Contrary to rumors, DHS is buying a fraction of what Joe Average is buying. The number of large and small caliber rifle and handgun rounds now in the hands of the American public is staggering. And it will quadruple before long.

If the foreign manufacturers were shut out by the recent EO, it would mean that particular market would take years to right itself.

Going on info from both our local sporting/gun shop & our drivers. We pick up at one of the plants and they tell me they running 3 shifts to try to keep upand that WE, that is , SAIA LTL FREIGHT, are pulling double what we used to out of there along with several other carriers.
