Only warning should be the sound of the safety being clicked off, or the round being pushed into the chamber (pumping a shotgun once works too).

I prefer quite safeties.

The click of the hammer on a large bore revolver or a round being chambered in a pump shotgun are two very distinct sounds that will usually be enough to make the average wanna be leave rather quickly. I have seen it work a few times..... I would prefer they leave rather then to have to shoot the foolish... If the situation is really SHTF there will not be any warning sounds though..... Only warning should be the sound of the safety being clicked off, or the round being pushed into the chamber (pumping a shotgun once works too). .......Pumping a round in the shot gun just means you have addressed the threat with an unloaded weapon and just limited your self to one less in the magazine......contrary to popular TV scenes....
