This is a short video so no reason not to watch. I love pike fishing and this is the reason why.

Close enough to make your day It sure did and i didn't even catch a fish that day, that hit was enough.I could catch more pike by using plugs that have three sets of treble hooks. I just refuse to use them because they can and do kill fish. So I use a less productive lure like a spinner bait or buzz bait. Don't get me wrong they are good lures but not as good as plugs. I'm a sport fisherman, catch and release, the most important part is releasing a healthy fish. I do have plugs and when that days comes when I will be needing fish for food, then I will use them. I know this may sound funny to some people but I love nature and do what I can to help her along. That means all of gods creatures...except...those....dam....ticks

+1 on the ticks... ditto for mosquitoes and everything else that bites. That was VERY cool! I've never seen any fish do anything that came close! For whatever reason, maybe just because I'm at school, your short video paused 9 times to buffer, and each time was a minimum of 30 seconds. I have to deal with buffering issues at home too, but this was ridiculous. The strike itself was sandwiched between 2 long buffering sessions. Maybe I'll try watching directly from youtube next time. We don't even have anyone else here at school yet, so the network isn't straining.

Cool vid OT. My new house has a large river behind it. I'm told salmon run up it. I can't wait to go cast a line.

Looked like good bass waters to me. How far north are you? I always associate pikes with colder northern water. I did catch a 38 inch muskie once on a jig-n-pig at Lake Kincaid in Southern IL. Man that was a thrill! I know what you mean though about not wanting to kill the fish. I throw back 99% of everything I catch and it makes me almost physically ill when I occasionally hook one to deep and it goes belly up . So, Im not a big fan of treble hooks either. You and I have got to go out and spend some time covering water together! I fish buzz baits almost exclusively this time of year and nothing in fishing beats the type of violent strikes they produce! Nice vid dude and keep them commin!

One of my most memorable strikes was when fishing with my BIL.....a pike, came from under the boat, while I was just swishing a new French spinner to see what the action was, is about 6" of water.
He charged out from under the boat and stole it right off my line....scared the crap out of me....LOL....that strike at your feet reminded me of that day.
Two week later my BIL gave me back that spinner....he caught that same fish took out the spinner and turned it loose.
I wouldn't use that bait again in that spot....that pike couldn't leave it alone.

Nice vid dude and keep them commin! We still have rivers that have not been chanleized completely. So the river banks have lots of cooling shade that helps keep the water cool. Here is another reason why this is a good place for pike or any fish. It's right below a dam with lots of fast moving white water, this keep the fish happy with lots of oxygen in the water. This river does hold some large mouth but it's better suited for small mouth bass. I do live pretty far north about one hour from lake Erie if your driving 55 mph. Ohio in the days before man cut down all the trees and channelize all the rivers and creeks for flood control. Ohio had many cold water species including trout. Sad to say Ohio has only one creek left that is cold enough to support trout, I believe they are native brook trout but I need to check this out.We for sure have a lot in common when it comes to fishing, I would wet a line with you any day. As things are now i'm taken care of my mom and dad and can not get away....for now. Yep buzz baits and plastic worms got it covered. I love the buzz baits because of the top water hits. I also love plastic worms because you never know how big the fish is until you slam that hook home and the fight is on. Around here late summer and fall is prime time for top water, all the fisherman has to do is ...hang on. Today I was by the river but not fishing and found about 300 yards of discarded fishing line I still don't understand why people would leave fishing line laying on the ground. It's a death trap for many animals even birds, I swear one of these days i'm going to sneak up on a slob fisherman and punch em in the head. Then roll up all the trash they left on the ground and shove it in there mouth...and that is how i feel about that. Sorry brother it just makes me mad.
