insaneh, this is clearly NOT directed at you, but it is directed at the videos like this one!
Every time the plastic bottle "solar light" thing comes up, I have to wonder why folks think that it's so special. The way the videos are done make it seem cool, but: - No light at night, when it's actually needed. - If you have a window, a door or a hole in the wall, how many lights do you really need during the day - The videos are always shot in "cave rooms" without windows, doors or simple skylights - The amount of light transmitted into the room is 400% to 500% LESS than a small skylight cut into the same roof - A plastic bottle sticking through your roof will transmit more light than a round hole of the same size - so what?
Again, if you just happen have a cave with NO windows, NO doors, NO skylights and super easy access to a roof - and you only want a tiny bit of light during the daytime - then this just may be of limited use to you - until it cracks and lets in the rain!
Seriously.....

No problem marc. We all have our opinions and I don't offend easily. The video I watched was based in extremely poor countries. These folks made their homes from scraps and various makeshift materials. A skylight or window isn't an option. If you see the way they build some of these cities or towns, they build right on top of each other. No room for another window or opening. It gives them the option of using an interior room when they normally couldn't. Trust me, I'm probably about as far from a bleeding heart liberal as you can get. These people are making due with what they have and are surviving day to day on what many throw away. I think the bottle light was just short of brilliant given the circumstance.
