Got out here today (sat)about noon, grass is up to my butt......Spent May in La. and that's usually grass cutting time.
Some roads leading out here were closed, 4 inches of rain last night, water over the road, and mud slides....so had to detour a couple of times.
Everything good to go at "The Place"...tractor started right up....but after a couple of hours of mowing, started over heating....Like, now what?
Yeah, it was hot, grass really long, tractor working it butt off.....screen clean in front of radiator(?)
Cooled it down and finished, mowing.... will see what happens, tomorrow after the storms......More rain for tonight.
River just over it banks here, worst down stream....we picked our way thru county roads on high ground to get here.....had scoped many routes over the years.
Flashlights and lanterns ready in case the power go out.......
Heading out on the porch to watch the storm.....Power flickering.
We really don't "Need" power.......except the beer might get warm....can't let that happen...LOL
The worst part is that if the power does go out.......then come back on in the middle of the night.....and everything that was left on is really loud and bright.
Our goal is to be able to show up and get by with what's here, power or not, for at least a couple of weeks.
Sat night rained most of the night.....
Made a trip to town this morning fuel up the truck, fuel for the tractor, general supplies, (DW, bread, milk and eggs, me frozen pizza and beer), in case we have to hold out awhile.
More rain heading this way next couple of days....
Several mud slides on the way to town.
Main street Gays Mills.....water had gone down a foot when we got there, neighbor was directing traffic so let me thru for some lookie loo's and Pic's
Another neighbor's corn field....
We are on the Kickapoo River, and it's over it banks.
My lower field, don't think the corn is gonna make it....
When it says "flood plain" on the property map, they aren't kidding.....
I'll see if I can get some more pic's to load.
