The bass fishing is slow for now So I decided to go pike fishing. Went to my favorite creek and started pitching a buzz bait. In no time I was into a pike, just a small one but don't tell the pike that. After I released that pike I pitched the buzz bait back in the same place and wham another pike. This one being much bigger and it pulled drag, i love top water pike fishing.

mmm love pike, excellent eating fish Yes they are but not from this water. This creek flows through miles of farm land so who knows whats in the water. It's a dam shame that we take a valuable resource like fresh water and pollute it and what lives in it to the point of makin it unhealthy.

No I never worry about snakes in this part of Ohio. Never seen a poisonous snake in my part of the woods ever. That's another big plus about living in Ohio, we do have poisonous snakes but very far and few between. Good luck to you and your little buddy hope you catch some fish. But if not make sure you have fun anyways, let him throw some rocks or what ever he wants and he will always want to go with dad

Hey OT, got something for you to try. Have you ever heard of the Cajun Cork? Its a foam egg sized cork with a wire running thru it and has brass beads on it. The idea is to hang a minnow (or whatever) under it from an 18" or so leader. You jerk on it intermittently and its splash and clicking attracts fish to the bait and hold on for the action. I cant wait to try it out on bass especially in places I want to fish over snagging structure. Been using it lately to catch reds, specks and some flounder. Should work on bass, pike, and other predetory critters too. Let me know what ya think bro. Tight lines and fair skies!

Talking about snakes in a tree reminded my of last year my son went out the door, just turned the corner to go down the side of the house and a six foot black snake fell out of the tree almost on him. It was up the tree getting tree rat babies out of a nest when he shut the door he scared it then when it fell it scared him. A good six foot he just picked it up by its tail and put it into the tool box on the truck. Then took it out to the retreat and turned it loose.
We don't like to kill the good snakes but we can't let them stay around the house with all of the quail we have + this year we have ducks and rabbits running loose. Have not seen any yet this year, last year we caught five and took four to the retreat. The only reason one got killed was it was up under the rabbit hutch in an old box and laid an egg that fell on to my sons foot big as a chicken egg but still soft. He thought he had kick into a chicken nest and reached up and under to find it. Except he found the mama blacksnake just over six feet. He kind of forgot we were keeping them and stomped it good. Then we found the eggs. So we have not had any yet this year.
Every poisonous snake anywhere in the U.S. is here in our area except the desert rattlesnake. We have the timber and pigmy rattlesnakes and coral, cottonmouth, copperhead, all of them.
We found one timber rattler den but they don't stay in them much in our light winters. I found some of all except the coral snake at one time or another and probably found some of them and just didn't see um.
One reason I let rabbits and ducks run is so I will know if we have something we need to watch for. The king snakes would keep the others away but we hauled them off, so have to keep an eye out.
I keep a rooster loose more to keep the little kids up around the house, but really to keep them out of the woods and the possibilities of finding a snake.

Busted 8 bass tonite on a 1/8 oz black buzz bait. No biggins but, fun never the less. Used my Cajun Cork and some minnows and did not do well with it. Gonna try that technique again on a different lake.

Gonna try that technique again on a different lake. Wow 8 bass all on buzz baits, that right there was some fun fishing for sure. When buzz baits are hot nothing can beat them for the pure fun and excitement they bring...nice going.

Been fishing mostly for specks and reds lately. Those reds really put up a fight too.
