An instant oatmeal package contains a slight layer if plastic inside to help keep the oatmeal from absorbing moisture.
You can use that to your advantage if you need to collect water and have no container. The packet can be used to collect and transfer or transport about a third of a cup of water. The packet can be used several times before it begins to breakdown. Do your best to not allow water to get on the outside paper layer if possible to extend the usable period of the packet.

Makes sense. If I didn't have a bowl with which to put in the instant oatmeal I'd just use the bag.

I would imagine this would work with most an package these days......
But I gotta ask Why would you have instant oatmeal and not have a bowl or cup? Can you just dump the oatmeal down dry, then drink the water?
