With out God your DOOMED You all are done for, I am the only one who will survive because I am awesome and none of you did it my way! Build fire out of thin air. Build a boat out of tooth picks and duck tape... well that last one would actually be kind of cool. Any way
So sick of hearing this crap. I am also SO glad it doesn't happen here. I love you guys!
Really though. Avoid or befriend these people? I find it funny how some one with a 50+ acre farm can tell a guy like me who has 1.25 acres of swamp and ledge that I should be growing all my own vegetables and raising my own meet. I find it funny how some one with a 6 digit salary can spout off about ammo and stored food that is worth more than my yearly pay. How do we deal with people like this? Simply ignore them? Get on their good side just in case? Even the religious elitists get on my nerves. Personally I'm a pagan, and have been for years and get along just fine. I am very comfortable in my spirituality and all that goes along with it, including the after life. I pray for my friends just as passionately as any Christian and get equal results. Unlike these elite I have never, ever once knocked some one else for what they believe. I dunno, I just had to vent, these people drive me nuts. Its pretty tuff raising 4 kids on 1.5 incomes totaling less than 40k a year. Some times we can barely make ends meet, let alone buy "preps" or extra.
This subject does form a question though. Do these types do more harm than good? I understand there are these types of people every where and normally I just ignore them in real life. The thing with this prepper stuff though I want to learn, I am eager for ideas. I want to know and be close to people I can help and can help me.
I don't mean to offend any one if this is your mind set. If it is, you have done a good job keeping it to your self on here. This place seems to be so well rounded and common sense.

I will address the religious aspect of your post. You've broken your record for not dinging on those who believe with this comment "REPENT! With out God your DOOMED". I question the kind of person your referring to. A Christian does not make those kind of comments due to the "judge not" and instructions for witnessing: "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet."
A 'Christian' doesn't breath down your neck, nor comment where it's unwanted. Please do not paint us all with that brush.
Regarding the 'elitist', I do not believe there is any one person that has it all right. Some have more means than others to prepare, for those people they should be doing so with an eye toward helping others. We as a group have done that.
Material goods can help, but at the end of the day, a person could have 20 years of food, enough ammo and firearms for a world war, but fold up in a fetal position sucking their thumbs when SHTF for them. The material goods as stated can help, but they are worthless without the mental fortitude to survive. As for growing food, I know that there are options on the cheap, even for areas where the ground is not conducive to the effort. Container gardening and hydroponics come to mind.

Thanks guys. Cwi555, sorry about the "repent" comment, I was mocking the bulk of a post I saw the other day elsewhere that basically stated if your not right with God in SHTF your done for and to repent now. I have the upmost respect for Christians. I grew up going to an advent Christian church till I was 8 or 9, then a Baptist church till I went in the service at 18. Its a good program with good lessons, I have read the bible cover to cover more than once and agree with much of it. And your right, most folks don't push their religion around, nor should they. Each person on this earth has to find what works for them, what puts them at peace and helps them through the day. For some people this is faith in them selves for others we lean toward a religion or spiritual path. wtrfwlr hahaha! lucky for me he lives far from here. And its not just one guy, you see this here and there. We all probably know one or two of them personally.

Oh yeah I know a few. They are also the guys that show up at deer camp looking like wannabe members of Seal Team 6! If they ever did actually go outside they wouldn't know the difference between a sawbriar and a cactus...they both look like they would poke ya, or at least the pictures they saw on the internet look that way.

There is no need to surround yourself with people that cause harm in your life. If you cannot be accepted for who you are and what you believe then those people don't need to be in your circle. That's not to say everybody has to agree with you, or you them - just understand the differences and keep moving forward.

Having the means to buy a lot of gear is probably helpful. But I'm betting a lot of these people have never had to do without. Once their gear breaks, or gets stolen or something gets thrown at them they don't expect or can't handle they'll be in for a rude awakening. I'd say very few of the braggers and know it alls you see on other forums are truly resourceful resilliant people.
As far as the religious people. They mean well even if it doesn't seem that way.

I couldn't agree more. I've seen both, first hand. Someone I knew well in college departed from the religion in which she was raised, only to devote inordinate amounts of time trying to persuade me that not only was I wrong, but headed south. I know she meant well, but...

I prefer substance to flash, knowing how to get by without and not only survive but thrive, with be of great value long after the flash is gone. I also get a grin from those that assume they will always have their home or shelter, natural disasters and human ignorance can put you out in a heartbeat, don't put all you eggs in one basket. Those same folks assume they will be home when SHTF so carry minimal if any gear to get home, and many have no bush knowledge. Also guess what, the skies may not be blue and sunny when SHTF.

Huge difference between well supplied and well prepared. The types I think will fare best during the EMP-Zombie-meteorite-super volcano-sunami-economic free for all will be farmers, the swamp people, ranchers, the Mountain Men, the Life Below Zero people, "Uncle" Sylus Robertson, the Myth Busters, moonshiners, and basically anyone with a beard down to their chest. I hold out little hope for the Atlanta housewives, Kardashians, anyone on The Bachelor, Jersey Shore, or any VH1/MTV big brother type. Hell, half the DDPs wont make it either.
I got a friend who lives in S. Georgia. Former Marine and served with me here for awhile in the CG. Doesnt have so much as an extra can of beans. When SHTF, he will have his Glock, 50 rounds of ammo, and his old E-tool from the garage and that will be about all he needs and will come out the other side just fine. Why? Cause he is brilliant smart, tough as nails, and has a will like no other man Ive ever met. He carries it all in his head and heart and can solve problems. That is who survives. The problem solvers, not the saver uppers.

One of my favorite things about the book Lucifer's Hammer was where the main character couldn't even get back in his own home because he was essentially useless.
Also as far as the elitist prepper, the ones who did it right will be OK but the ones who have been bragging about what they have won't go un noticed. They will be constantly defending their stuff. I'm sure we all will but if you don't look like you have much it might be best.
