Not only is it a great lure but is a deadly effective lure.

How unique is that idea. Maybe we can get OT to try it out for us since he likes making his own lures and gets to go fishing more than the rest of us.

No need to get even that fancy, just tie some strands onto the hook and fluff it out. But remember without real bait your only going to catch a few fish before they catch on. If you have no bait then keep moving to another area so you can pick up a few more fish that haven't seen your lure. The best way to catch fish is to get out and learn, no lure can make up for lack of knowledge. That paracord lure in the right hands will catch fish but do you know what to do when it stops catching fish? PS don't worry if you have no orange paracord any color will work...nice video.

That's what i'm talking about, I use jigs all the time when pan fishing. At first I use just the plain jig and most of the time I can catch a few fish. But once they catch on i have to move to a different hole or tip off the jig with a grub or worm. Sometimes it can be so dry that worms and grubs can be very hard to find.

That video gave me an idea that you could use the thin para cord and make a San Juan worm style lure. Red, brown, black, orange would all work well.
I would say this, I have gone fly fishing for b-gills and have caught them one after the other using the same fly (#10 white or olive wooly booger) until I got tired of casting. You are right though, no matter how many you catch, 1 or 100, when they stop you either move on or change baits. Always remember when fishing, if the fish arent biting you usually need to change something. Dont get caught up exercising too much patience.

Always remember when fishing, if the fish arent biting you usually need to change something. Dont get caught up exercising too much patience. Fly fishing is a lot different then using a lure on a casting rod. Flies are made to look just like insects so the need for bait is not as important. There is a difference between the fish stopping the feed and the fish knowing what your using is not food. When the fish stop feeding then pretty much it's over no matter what you throw. I also have to remember that this post is about using this lure in a survive situation so most people will not have a rod and reel, just some line and some hooks. Without the rod and reel you are going to limit your ability even further to catch fish. This is why my fishing kit does include a rod and reel, it's the best way to put food on the fire.

I don't have a standard size rod and reel but I do have my pocket fisherman which I can cast and have caught some good sized fish on. Love my pocket fisherman. Even if I just snag perch on it I'll be happy for the meal. Of course OT I don't think it matters what YOU fish with, you just have that skill to catch fish no matter what you use.

You are so kind to say that but truth is I get skunked from time to time But those days of getting skunked are far and few between...thank god The pocket fisherman is a good choice for the BOB, it will get the job done. It seems people are better equipped to hunt for there food, carrying extra ammo and a full sized rifle. When it comes to fishing people take just the bare minimum, thinking they will catch fish just as easy as when fishing with rod and reel...this is so not true. Fish are not always along the banks and easy to reach. And without that rod to control the depth and speed of your lure, snags will be many. I do suggest that everyone here rethink your fishing kit, to add a ice fishing rod and a small open face reel.Doing this will greatly increase your odds of surviving.

Well OT I am 100% certain I don't need any ice fishing gear but carrying an extra reel couldn't hurt just in case for a backup.
