I have always heard people talking about the benefits of sheep's wool what about alpaca wool? Is alpaca as durable as sheepskin wool?

Yes it is. I have an alpaca wool blanket my dad got from South America when I was a kid. It is warm and durable. It is not as soft as sheep's wool but that may just be intent.

According to Wikipedia Alpaca wool can be either light or heavy depending on how it is spun. It is warmer than sheep wool and contains no lanolin, is water-repellant, and difficult to ignite. Must be something better since more and more Alpaca breeders are popping up all over the place.

IMHO, both are good choices, but in a SHTF scenario, I think it's safe to say sheep would be much more common than alpacas, so ready availability has to be considered a major benefit.

Jim I myself don't know anyone who owns Alpacas but what caught my eye is the wool qualities which is good to know if you know anyone who does raise and breed them.

Me neither but I googled Alpaca farms in NH & ME and there are several in both states. I had thought about raising them at one time until I found out the cost. They are expensive!

Yes, use more sheep and less alpacas
